Vitrahaus, The 12 Houses in One

Try to imagine a lot of houses built overlapped, 12 houses, one over another. Well, this is the project Vitrahaus, designed by Herzog e De Meuron to the Vitra’s showroom, a beautiful sample of deconstruction and modernity.

<!–break–>

Located at the Weil Am Rhein, between Switzerland and Germany, will be latest architectural addition at the Vitra Campus complex, which already features buildings by Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Tadao Ando, among others. The house is a piece of art, built with concrete walls and huge windows, allowing you to have an amazing view form the campus during the day, becoming big ‘store windows’ at night, showing the pieces inside of it.

Inside the Vitrahaus the architects achieve success on their mission to treat the minimalism and simplicity to bring even more value to the colors and shapes to each chair, each sofa, each Vitra mobil. To be honest, the designs are complementary, and the visitor’s eyes are delighted by both architecture and the furniture showroom.

The “VitraHaus“ is a direct, architectural rendition of the ur-type of house, as found in the immediate vicinity of Vitra and, indeed, all over the world.

The products that will be on display are designed primarily for the private home and, as such, should not be presented in the neutral atmosphere of the conventional hall or museum but rather in an environment suited to their character and use.

so that would mean that there are only two different colors of people (red, green and/or golden).

Different sizes, does that refer to height??? because yes, people are of different heights.

Shapes??? Fat people, skinny people, average people.

Way to describe the world in terms of a fruit and take away from people's identity.

This statement seems very Forrest Gump-ish. I guess it makes some sense, but meh.

I think you need to look at this long term..Are they still gonna be building grand buildings in 30-50 yrs and surgery I think will be required til the end of time. There is still a lot to learn in medicine and groundbreaking advances are happening daily.

Sit and write the pros and cons of each profession and see what you come up with.

Good luck in your chosen profession!

Gehry's style is derived from late modernism. The tortured, warped forms of his structures are considered expressions of the deconstructivist (DeCon) school of modernist architecture. The DeCon movement departs from modernism in its de-emphasis of societal goals and functional necessity. Unlike early modernist structures, DeCon structures are not required to reflect specific social ideas (e.g. speed, universality of form), and they do not reflect a belief that form follows function. DeCon, which Gehry has continued to refine, is also known as the Santa Monica school of architecture. This region of the United States has produced the greatest range of experimentation in the field of DeCon design and contains the largest concentration of the structures.

Gehry is considered a modern architectural icon and celebrity. He has appeared in Apple's black and white "Think Different" pictorial ad campaign that associates offbeat but revered figures with Apple's design philosophy. His buildings, including his private residence, have become tourist attractions. Many museums, firms, and cities seek Gehry's services as a badge of distinction, regardless of the product he delivers.

guess he rocks!

Instability in our atmosphere causes erratic refractions of light from
stars and planets.imagine if you will, looking at an object beyond a hot
bar-b-que.
this distortion makes stars apear to 'twincle'

Sure it "looks" like it would leak, but for that kind of money, I'd expect someone to figure out how to make it not leak, and if they failed to, I'd be annoyed too. No doubt it would be a challenge to make non-leaking, but that was a lot of money.

Keep in mind that there have been nearly 100 years of improvement in technology since Frank Lloyd Wright. This was not a billionaires monument to vanity, where perhaps some problems could be overlooked in the name of art, but rather "It houses labs, offices, classrooms and meeting rooms."
