ive done many bathroom feature walls with this effect
in new zealand we call it rag rolling.
you roll your wall/s with the base colour then let it dry
then do the feature colour ,as it is drying tie a clean rag (muslin is what i prefer) and gently remove excess paint .

The fresco images you will see in the Villa of Mysteries seem to part of a ritual ceremony aimed at preparing privileged, protected girls for the psychological transition to life as married women. The frescoes in the Villa of Mysteries provide us the opportunity to glimpse something important about the rites of passage for the women of Pompeii.
I believe that the fresco painting technique that was used is called buon fresco, but I am not sure how that contributes to the feeling of expanded space. Good luck!

FINANCIAL BACKING ! THE SECOND MOST IMPORTANT POINT IS LOCATION , LOCATION , LOCATION ! BEING IN AN ARTS DISTRICT IS GREAT IF PPOSSIBLE . IF AN ARTIST ISN'T INVOLVED WITH THEIR EXHIBIT , MOVE THEM ON DOWN THE ROAD ! A MIXED MEDIA EXHIBIT , PARTICULARLY AROUND HOLIDAYS IS GOOD FOR THE SHARED EXPOSURE & SALES . IF YOU HAVE A COOL GALLERY THE ARTISTS WILL COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK OR YOU CAN PUT OUT A CALL TO ARTISTS .DON'T WORRY ABOUT COMPETITION FOCUS ON A PARTICULAR ART STYLE , CONTEMPORARY/POP , WATERCOLOR , ETC. .
