The first product showcased is the Tuff-’N’-Tidy drive, which Verbatim is touting as the “smallest USB drive in the world”. The T-n-T line will be available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB – which will be available later in the year.

In keeping with the ’smallest in the world’ theme, Verbatim showed off their Titan XS portable hard drive lineup. These devices are made with portability in mind. They will be releasing with 320GB, 500GB, and 640GB options. A 1TB (terabyte) version will release sometime in Q3.

The final Verbatim Item from CES 2010 is their Insight USB portable hard drive. While not being the smallest in the world, they have a sleek design. A “cholesteric” LCD display allows users to show a custom title, and shows the amount of hard drive space left. The product will release in 320GB, and 500 GB capacities.

Seagate’s BlackArmor line of external HDD’s is nothing new, but at CES they showed off the new PS110 model, which comes with some excellent features that complement the high-end BlackArmor series. The HDD itself comes in at 500GB 7,200rpm and comes in a slimming black case. It’s also USB 3.0 and Seagate brags that it’ll transfer files three times faster than a stock USB 2.0 drive.

The Team Group is showing off a new flash drive, the X092 that features both eSATA and a USB 2.0 connection, giving you a choice of a conventional USB port or the new, superfast, eSATA port. Yesterday, we covered a similar device from A-DATA. This could be a coming trend of eSATA-USB hybrid drives.

A new flash drive, the N002, from A-DATA features both eSATA and USB 3.0 ports on, covering you in both new data transfer ports. This is just the first in a ton of USB 3.0 gear that is starting to come out, even though there aren’t any Intel USB 3.0 capable chipsets yet. More and more USB 3.0 gadgets are starting to come out and PQI has introduced one of the first USB 3.0 flash drives. The PQI U366 Cool Drive features a 3.0 USB connection for super fast data transfer rates, and the storage sizes of the flash drive are bigger than usual.

Buffalo recently released their HD-HU3, the first USB 3.0 external HDD, and now they’re keeping it up by releasing the first USB 3.0 external Blu-Ray burner. So far, its only being released in Japan but will come with a ton of features, including 12X write speeds and a USB 3.0 connection.

The Brits already know that the HTC HD2 has been selling for a while on O2 and Vodafone, what they may not know is that T-Mobile officially unveiled the Windows smartphone, today. The third carrier to sell the handset in the UK, T-Mobile is going to offer the Snapdragon-based HD2 for free if you sign a two year contract that will cost you £35 ($58) per month — much less than what O2 is charging their customers.

For those who can’t remember it, the new HTC HD2 boasts a large 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display with multitouch support, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with autofocus and LED flash, and runs Windows Mobile 6.5 — and word is that when out, a free upgrade to Windows Mobile 7 will be offered. There’s also the already standard Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi (b/g) connectivity, a Micro-USB port, built-in GPS, a USB 2.0 High-Speed client and a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack with mic.

On top of these all, the new T-Mobile HTC HD2 allows you access to hundreds of apps in the Windows Marketplace and allows you to sync all your phone stuff to the web for free using the new My Phone backup service.

Not a bad deal, eh?

Cloud Engines has announced today the second generation Pogoplug. That’s all fine and dandy but what’s a Pogoplug most people will ask. A Pogoplug is an interesting device that will let you access all the content you want from your USB drives over the Internet. That means you don’t have to carry with you portable hard drives anymore. When situated in the dock, the M1305 can take full advantage of the discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT220 GPU that’s squeezed within, making it entirely more capable of pushing out 3D graphics or HD multimedia to connected displays. It must be time for a new USB standard if people need things like this 10 Port USB Hub. It comes with it’s own power supply and there’s a port selector switch which allows you to disable the last 4 ports. Over the weekend, reports have been piling up saying that iPhone syncing with iTunes doesn’t work for some users on Windows 7. The official Apple forums have several threads related to the issue, so it’s quite safe to assume the issue is real.

Looking for a common denominator, it seems that having a motherboard with an Intel P55 chipset is the key cause, but I personally have a similar issue (iPhone starts syncing, then reports an error) on a laptop with another chipset, with freshly installed Windows 7.

Some of the suggested fixes include using a USB hub or a PCI USB card for connecting your iPhone, and disabling Power Management for each of the USB ROOT HUBs on your computer. But none of these seem to fix the problem for everyone.

What’s your experience? Have you had problems with iPhone/iTunes syncing on Windows 7? If so, have you been able to fix it? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Labware Lamps by Benjamin Hubert

“Our rock stars aren’t like your rock stars”, goes the slogan on Intel’s relatively recent TV ads. One ad in the series plays homage to Ajay Bhatt, co-inventor of the USB, although Ajay is played by an actor.

Upon discovering that fact, The Tonight Show’s Conan O’Brien (and someone at Intel marketing) decided it was time for an interview with the man himself.

Conan questions Bhatt on everything from his own failed attempt at creating the USB (a “gravy port”) to the effect of his “rock star” status on young women. The result, of course, is hilarious:
