I majored in Industrial Design. During the course, however, I changed to visual design/graphic design. Even though I changed I always admired good industrial designs, especially because of all the considerations taken during the process. It’s more than visual; there are materials, ways of production, logistics.

In this post I’ve selected some of the coolest industrial designs from Behance. I was looking for some inspiration in this field and decided to browse through Behance, and before I knew it I had hundreds of tabs opened.

Some designs I selected because of the visual aesthetics like the Fan Clock, but the majority due to the eco-friendly aspects. I hope you like it and if you have any links to great product designs let us know, let’s enrich this article with your comments

Envi, is a foresight urban dustbin, promoting composting from biodegradable waste. The project is based on a social approach. It shows the benefits that we can take from urban recycling. It makes waste into nutritious compost for the plant which it carries and lives in harmony with. The big part of the produced compost can be separated from Envi for usage in other occasions.

Black Friday tends to bring out the animalistic side of shoppers looking for great bargains. Smart retailers are hip to the craze, which has been somewhat of an internet meme ever since October, and they’re using the web and social media as platforms to generate even more interest.

Toys”R”Us appears to have found the magic formula for not only building buzz but gaining thousands of Facebook fans by the day. The toy retailer has wisely decided to give their Facebook fans, and Facebook fans only, a full preview of Black Friday discounts, as well as exclusive access to “Mystery Deals.”

Their calculating Facebook maneuver is helping them net hundreds of thousands fans. As they close in on 400,000 fans total, All Facebook is reporting that Toys”R”Us is currently the fastest growing brand on the social network.

Interesting enough, Toys”R”Us is using Scribd to display its 35 page, 120 plus product, Black Friday extravaganza within their Facebook Page. Fans can sift through the discounts, unearth the mystery deals, and of course share their enthusiasm with their Facebook friends.

Toys”R”Us isn’t just relying on Black Friday to encourage community participation and engagement on Facebook though, as they’ve also embedded their entire 80 page Big Book toy catalog as a part of their Page, and are posting in-store redeemable coupons.

This holiday season, social media may hold the key to helping retailers become profitable for the year, and by all indications, Toys”R”Us is doing everything right.

Amazon, probably the most successful online retailer there is, knows this, and that is one reason why it has prepared for an influx of holiday shoppers by creating its own Holiday Toy List. Amazon knows what people are going to be looking for, and it has put together this list to make finding these things as easy as possible. It’s not just a list, but a page that points to these items.

“The Holiday Toy List is a helpful tool for parents, friends and family members who are searching for the perfect toys for the kids on their list,” says Sarah Wood, director of the Toy Store for Amazon.com. “With navigation that’s simple, convenient and fun to use, it’s easier than ever to find great gifts at Amazon’s everyday low prices.”

Not only has Amazon created the page, but they have promoted it. They have issued a press release for news organizations and bloggers to pick up, which should give the list plenty of coverage. It will likely lead to increased sales on popular items.

Now, granted, not everyone can put out a press release and expect to get the kind of coverage Amazon does. Amazon’s huge. Your online business is probably not quite so big. That doesn’t mean you can’t put special focus on the items you expect to sell the most during the holiday season and promote them in other ways.  You may still issue a press release, but you can simply use social media marketing, search marketing, email marketing, etc., but have a focused landing page where customers can easily find what they want, or what you expect them to want.

This may seem like common sense, and perhaps it is, but there is a lot of competition online, and if you are not focused on promoting what has the best chance of bringing you business, you may not be getting the sales you’re after.

Super-Bastard Box Art Characters is a set of paper toys created by the Malaysian designer Undoboy and it’s extremely creative and well illustrated with very known and unknown characters. These toys are awesome, check it out!

Super-Bastard Box Art Characters, consists of 16 unique toys in one set, with 4 unique characters on each face of the box. Collectors have an opportunity to collect all 16 toys/64 characters in the series. Each toy is individually placed in a sealed box (blind assortment). They are produced in a limited edition with only 1000 copies of each toy on the market. Each toy is made with heavy card stock plus matt lamination and stands 4” in height.

SBBAC are colorful and fun to play with. Each toy has 4 characters, each with a custom designed suit. Characters include Uncle Sam, George W. Bush, Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Queen Elizabeth II, Mother Teresa, a mummy, a Japanese wrestler, a cave man, dominatrix and so on. The toys are designed so that you can detach the head or the pants. Once removed, it reveals either a skull or underwear. What makes it exciting isn’t how cool or funny their underwear is, but that collectors can interchange their heads and pants with different bodies. Can a George W. Bush head go with a Saddam Hussein commander suit? How about president Mao wearing a super hot bikini?

Where is this come from:

The idea behind SB was inspired by early mix and match books and paper doll that you can switch around the cloths. Paper doll is flat, I think it could be really fun and cool to switch the form from 2d to 3d. I like the idea of mix and match because it enhances the playfulness and also create the possibility of the toy itself.

I had the idea in school, and it was always well received. Friends always pushed me to produce it. It took me a year to produce SB, since I have a 9-5 job.

Toy Story 3, to be released on June 18th, is one of the most anticipated movies of 2010. While a teaser trailer for the 3D movie had been posted online already, the theatrical trailer hadn’t yet made it to the web, and no actual footage had been seen online.

This week that’s changing, as the full trailer has been posted to YouTube and other sites. Whether Disney decides to leave the videos up is another matter, but it would seem the leak is only adding to the, err, Buzz, around the release.

The social media chatter will likely be positive: the trailer not only hints at phenomenal animation, but also points to a decent plot. Thanks for the preview, interwebs!
