Earth Hour is globally celebrated environmental event organized by World Wide Fund for Nature. This is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney’s lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008. Earth Hour 2011 is taking place on March 26, 2011 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., local time and we are trying to showcase few of the millions of stunning photographs to give it a tribute and to create some awareness about this event. We would appreciate all of you who can create awareness in your circle and do whatever you can for our beautiful earth. You might be interested to see how we celebrated Earth Day in 2009 and how we celebrated Earth Hour in 2010.

At the start of the year 2011, the sun has raised on angry nations in many countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Many nations started a revolution and still uprising on their current regimes seeking for change and democracy. The rebellion touched many countries starting with Tunisia and moving to Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Bahrain and Yemen.

Along with each revolution, people ran to the streets asking for a change. They sacrificed their lives just to obtain a new hope. The great efforts of the people are documented by talented photographers who tried to take amazing shots for these revolutions and reflect the deep feelings of anger and need for a better future through photographs.

Photojournalists have documented amazing shots for these revolts that took place in different Arab countries and shared with us part of their experience they’ve encountered. Heregoo, I would like to share with you photojournalism shots from the uprising of different Arab countries categorized based on each country and the events that took place in there. While some nations began to succeed in their revolution and removed the old regime such as Tunisia and Egypt, some countries are still struggling to win the battle for their freedom.

Flickr Gets a Makeover and Becomes More Social!

I love Flickr. I’m on that site every single day. Can you believe it’s been around for six years? I’m a huge photography fan, and some of the billions of photos captured on that site are absolutely mind-boggling. I can truly appreciate the work of those very talented photographers.

If you are also a fan of the site, you know that they’ve had a new photo page in public review (over 800,000 members) since June. After many discussions, suggestions, studies, surveys, feedbacks, etc… I’m happy to say that as of yesterday, that new page is available to all of the Flickrverse!

To read about all the detailed changes, I’ll direct you to the Flickr blog. In a nutshell, the photos are 28% larger and the display is way better. The overall site is much faster, which is a change I noticed right away. Also, the “New and redesigned features improve browsing, discovery and communication with members about their photos on Flickr.” Wow, I’m really excited about this!

It definitely the most beautiful continent in our little planet… the wildest of them all, Africa is getting some attention thanks to this year’s World Cup at South Africa, but we really hope that it gets more than just plain attention. We hope for major problems solving.

We’ve seen for so long people dying in Africa from starvation, thirst, war, etc, that in today’s world, we got used to these things… but we must remember that it could be me, you, your parents there, dying of these things. I don’t know… just looking at Africa and enjoying its beauty just seems a little empty now. Those people need help. We need help. This world is agonizing. I’m sad now.

iSyndica:Upload Photos to Multiple Stock Photography Sites from One place

Stock photography and videography has become a decent profession in recent years and many talented photographers earn online by selling their work. Clicking photos and videos is fun and interesting, but to sell them is not an easy job. You must have a portfolio and a solid social media presence so that people know that you exist. They can see your work and eventually, interested visitors will turn into future prospects or clients.

Why Photographers Need Stock Photography sites and Online Agencies?

The first and simplest reason is exposure. It’s far better to use Flickr rather than a blogspot blog to showcase your work. If you portray your work at the right place, you will reap more returns and value because your work will be viewed by more visitors.

The second and most important reason is security. There are hundreds of thousands of copycats out there who will steal your work if you lay it open on Flickr or any other social media website like Facebook, Twitter etc. Consider a situation when a photographer uploads his work on Flickr and someone just downloads and sells it to any other company or at ebay. The photographer would not be able to know when his work is sold illegally. And if he happens to track that person who stoled his work, will he have any proof that the photograph originally belongs to him?

There are occasions where I get to see the sunrise, and it always takes my breath away. There are days when I am still working, and I see the sun come up or I really make it a point to wake up early just to catch a glimpse of the beautiful morning about to begin. I particularly love it when you see the sun just peeking out from the horizon.

If you happen to have visited my country, the Philippines, we have some of the best views, especially if you are on the beach. The sunrise is an awesome view even in the city. I believe that being a country composed of 7,100 islands has that benefit. I have lived in the city all my life, and when I was younger, my mom and dad would take us to Manila Bay to watch the sunrise and breathe the fresh sea air.

I gathered some photos that reminded me of the past. I just love it that even nature can paint beautiful colors. Thank you to the talented photographers that captured the moments for our enjoyment.

To learn how to see behind the lens of a camera has been one of Revonda’s greatest joys and passions. She sees photography as a wonderful medium that can teach us to see the world in ways never thought of. One of her favorite quotes is “Normally, we do not so much look at things as overlook them”-Alan Watts Although shooting for a short time, in four years Revonda’s eye and passion has had her work published in a special National Geographic’s collector’s edition book called “Your Shot: A 101 Best Photos”, published June 2009. National Geographic also picked another of Revonda’s images to be featured as downloadable wallpaper in September 2009 from National Geographic’s online magazine.

There is nothing she will not shoot; “if the light is right” is her philosophy. This philosophy has given her many opportunities and adventures such as shooting pro-sports for columbuswired.net, shooting the holiday card for the Ohio Statehouse in 2006, to meeting and shooting the descendents of Thomas Jefferson at a family reunion, images and story published by the Ohio Historical Society. She learned studio photography shooting pets and their owners as a way to donate the proceeds to humane shelters around Ohio. Many of her wildlife images were featured in a gallery show called “Voice of the Voiceless” in Armenia to raise awareness of shrinking wildlife habitats.

Exploring the world behind the lens of a camera has had a few perks along the way as Revonda has won many cameras, gear and awards, but her favorite perk has been to be able to shoot and share photography with her three daughters. One of Revonda’s main goals is showing others interested in photography that it is an ever changing and expanding hobby/art that can last a lifetime and the rewards a true gift.
