With all this going on, it is not odd that Pirates of the Caribbean even reaches into the Steampunk community with its long limbs. The art studio Kreatworks created a stunning Steampunk Jack Sparrow.

The detail on this badboy is just awesome, and you can stare at it for hours on end (that is if you’re really bored and have no work… or ANYTHING to do at all). It seems to be created in life size, and that definitely adds to the geekiness of it. Just make sure you know where to put it because I can imagine that once you have placed it somewhere, the statue would have to stay put because of its weight. Unless it is made out of aluminum, I’m sure this thing weighs quite a lot. Art is not always light weight you know. If you feel like buying this thing, it’s available over at ETSY for the cheap price of $6,999.

This amazing looking computer motherboard art is created by Tworzysko Finnabair, and it must be the most hidden art ever created (except maybe the art created by the people during the stone age in caves that is).  I have yet to find out if this motherboard is still functioning after this pimping treatment.

By using buttons, inks, sprays, metal strings, molding paste and various random things, this girl created the most striking motherboard I have ever seen.  Skip all the moddings out there.  Those are only on the surface of the computer.  At max, they go as far as to pimp out the fans and cooling of the computers, but this is true art.  I’m still wondering if that thing will go poof once it’s all connected and turned on.  There’s only one way to find out, right?

Steampunk usually comes in the form of great customized gear or gadgets that before held a more current look, but were to some extent Victorianized too look old and detailed.  As we all know, the manufacturers and industrial designers of today usually go for a future, clean and seamless look instead of really adding a personality to their products.  It comes as no surprise that Star Wars would one day become the victim of the awesome steampunk customization, but it doesn’t come in the form you might have foreseen.  Instead of creating cosplay costumes that were brought into the steampunk age, Bjorn Hurri instead took his awesome drawing skills and went to work.

The result is nothing less than something you feel you have wanted to see for a long time.  The drawings portray Star Wars as it probably should have been.  Or, maybe it’s just the bored creative soul within me that is speaking right now, after all, I have seen Star Wars more times than I can remember.  So maybe this approach would have been more enjoyable today.  These images surely strike a string on the chord of awesomeness.  They are brilliantly executed and ultimately inspirational.  My question is, when are we going to see The Lord of The Rings in an all steampunk version?

Steampunk is a design customization process that takes modern soulless gadgets back in time and gives them the edge needed to give them a soul. I recently found a brilliant and insanely beautiful and detailed iPod steampunk customization that made me beyond impressed. I have always enjoyed this post apocalyptic style, yet it’s from the past.

Brass Eyes, a brilliant Instructables user and a Steampunker gone amok, has created one of the most beautiful iPod customizations I have ever seen. If you thought that the Mix Monsters were cool, then this will certainly blow your top off. The walnut and brass look of this Victorian case shines with creativity, and if they were available for purchase, I would have hurried out to get one. Unfortunately this one is a one off, and I take it that it won’t be reproduced either. What amazing detail with kick ass technology.

This steampunk horse was created by someone so talented that their mind works have been chosen to grace the halls of a museum in London. The name of the creator is not known (if you know please tell us), but the guy who shot this ultimately inspirational piece of steampunk history is named Trey Ratcliff. He should get equal attention for his effort in hauling up a tripod when all that was to be seen was this horse in a maze of otherwise black halls.

If you have ever appreciated steampunk creations, then this one should definitely be at the top of your list. The creativity and the detail go beyond any creativity laws that hold all the steampunk items in place. The amount of time this horse must have taken to put together is just mind boggling if you ask me. It’s true creativity at its best.

Simon Jensen has created something astounding and beautiful out of an old turntable. Not only is it fully functional, but it also runs on steam. The build is a feat in engineering really, and it uses plenty of clever solutions to drive the servo to control the throttle speed.

Simon has carefully documented the build, and he has all kinds of geeky data represented on his site along with a cargo hold full of pictures to further showcase his awesomeness. If he can create a steam turntable, what really are his limits? The fact that it’s running on garbage doesn’t make the build any less impressive. #AwesomenessDefined

Steampunk 2GB Copper and Brass Jump Drive with Vintage Gears. Handcrafted 2gb jump drive made with vintage clock cog gearing detail. The jump drive has been carefully wrapped in a custom piece of brass. Added to it was an intricate stack gears gently removed from a vintage clock and watch.

The designer  attempted to capture the details of the gear. Copper piping along the sides and brass bolts make this piece truly unique. He capped the end with antiquated silver clock gears.  The drive is a 2gb and has never been used.  From a simple usb to a very stylish one.  What a great way to stand out in the office.

Imagine bringing out your laptop and then your newly re designed steampunk one.  Steampunk has gone beyond the traditional  various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by enthusiasts into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical “steampunk” style.^[25][26] Example objects include computer keyboards and electric guitars The goal of such redesigns is to employ appropriate materials (such as polished brass, iron, and wood) with design elements and craftsmanship consistent with the Victorian era.

So go beyond the ordinary, be bold.

Steampunk is a popular style of art that take its inspiration from Victorian England or from the era when steam power was widely used, namely the 19th century. There appears to be no boundaries to steampunk as an art. Digital drawing, sculptures, modeling, computer modding, traditional painting… and now, even Lego gets in on the act.
Regular readers will know how much I love Lego, to them I apologize, yes, yet another Lego post! I am sorry.

You might be wondering what steampunk’d mean, well simple   Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of “the path not taken” of such technology as dirigibles, analog computers, or digital mechanical computers (such as Charles Babbage’s Analytical engine); these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality.

Steampunk is often associated with cyberpunk and shares a similar fanbase and theme of rebellion, but developed as a separate movement (though both have considerable influence on each other). Apart from time period and level of technological development, the main difference between cyberpunk and steampunk is that steampunk settings usually tend to be less obviously dystopian than cyberpunk, or lack dystopian elements entirely.

So go ahead this coming Halloween go steampunk’d!
