People always ask me If ever get bored of doing vectors and the answer is always “I can’t”. Why? Because, as most of you, I also got heroes on what I do and these guys are one of the main reasons I can’t quit. Human Nature 84 is probably my favorite vector artist, not just because of his personal style, but because of the revolution his making on vector graphics. As me, you won’t believe that every of this artworks bellow are all vector made, no mesh or blends used, just pure vector.

Before someone asks, I’m not a huge fan of fortune tellers or other kind of magician. However, I must admit that this Tarot card deck designed by Omnitarian really changed a bit my mind. I definately dig his 50′s , vintage, grainy, cartoonish illustrations, they’re just so cool.

You probably already know Marek Okon, even If you don’t know who is exactly him, you definetely already saw his artworks. With all the T-shirt contests happening on the internet, I start asking myself, what makes a T-shirt design really good? I mean, you see a lot of funny ideas or well executed drawings winning, but shouldn’t a T-shirt design be both of them? Vincent Bocognani artworks really answer my question. This excellent illustrator got an outstanding body of T-shirt illustrations, they’re not only well done, but really funny, check out.

Is really interesting how simple shapes can tell many stories, definitely Fernando Togni is one this illustrators that can make the simple look really complex. Using basically Adobe Illustrator, he creates some awesome psychodelic illustrations using a lot of patterns, basic shapes like circles, rectangles, squares and triangles.

Nowadays Fernando lives in Porto Alegre, Brasil and works as a Freelancer, doing many works for clients like Wired, Pino, Super Interessante and Oryx Magazine. If you want to know more about Fernando and his work, please access his website.

Every year National Geographic promotes a photographic contest, with the categories “people”, “places” and “nature”, which awards the winner $10000 and publishes their picture in the NatGeo magazine. Accepting entries from all over the world, this year’s submission period was closed on November 30th, and the entries were already unveiled. The rules for the contest allow minor modifications on image editors, but some of the photos are so amazing that they seem completely manipulated.

Hu2 is a London-based company comprised of four crazy dudes (and one dudette!). They have some simply awesome ideas when it comes to creative uses of vinyl. Flicking through their online catalogue, we’re reminded of some of Banksy’s pieces, which we really dig here at Abduzeedo.

It is a great honor for me to present you the new project that I was working on called Refilmagem. A site about movies that was planned to add in a same place all the information about movies premiers, upcoming and showtimes from our home town, Porto Alegre. The project is from our partner at Zee and his girlfriend, Eduardo and Gisele (yeap, GisMullr!), and bellow I will show you how was the whole process of this project.

When Eduardo spoke to me about this project and asked me to create the layout for the site, I loved the idea – not because I love movies, because I only go to the movies, watch some films and that is it – but I loved the concept, the approach of showing this kind of content in a simple and direct way, without all of that ‘over information’ and ‘over colors’ from other movies sites.

The idea of Refilmagem came from a great frustration and difficulty of finding in a single site all the information about the premiers, showtimes, box office of the weekends and also the film review, poster and subtitled trailer. Gisele/Eduardo

To begin the work, he sent me some sites’ references that apply interesting concepts, as typography usage, content disposal, simple presentation, etc, so I could understand what he was looking for. Here are some of the references:

Development before the Design

The site was developed in Drupal, we love this CMS, and Eduardo is having lots of fun with the diversity of its modules. By the way he is being very successful with it. He had already started everything when I came along, and this process was pretty cool since we started the layout with the idea of the structure already defined.

Refilmagem is basically a mashup where almost 90% of the service is automatic utilizing many types of API’s and technologies like yahoo pipes, yql, json and jquery. Besides that the site counts with an editor/admin to give a special/personal touch to assure the that the service will run smoothly. Eduardo Sasso

After that we started some mockups using pen and paper to see what we could do to maintain that same structure, or if we were going to test something different, how we would present the content, the header we were going to use and so on.

And of course, having a defined wireframe we went through a lot of layout tests until we got to the final design.

Fabio also participated in this final part of process to help with the layout, and his help was very important in this step of the work. When we found the model we all liked, we started to improve its design working on Fireworks and CSS at the same time. In some moments it’s faster to test straight at the CSS before, because we can gain time and we can have a notion about how it will the the behavior at the browser.

Right now this project (showtimes, movies, etc) is available for our home town – Porto Alegre, but soon it will be available for other cities in Brazil and maybe some cities around the world. It was a real treat to see the work of the Curb, the world’s first natural media company. For Natural Media, it means that they solely use natural earth elements, such as sand, snow, water, grass, etc, all for the sake of our media needs. And they rock doing it.

David Mascha is a Vienna based designer and illustrator. Since 2005, he has been working for several design studios in Vienna as well as developing projects for international clients, fashion and design labels, magazines and books. Rich Soil Lion – Rich Soil Clothing

The first of 2 tee shirt illustrations I was asked to create for Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom’s clothing line, Rich Soil. Art Direction was provided by Jonathan Garcia.

I use roughly 3 programs; Photoshop, Cinema 4D and Poser occasionally. I didn’t know any decent tutorial sites when I started so as far as learning the technical aspects of the programs I would just keep trying artistically. I also learned a lot by looking at surrealist & futuristic painters work like H.R Giger & Salvador Dali.

Artwork created for the Advanced Photoshop Magazine cover contest, the brief was only to use one of the provided stocks. The image was not a selected winner, but did lead to the commission of the illustration ‘Living Is Loving’.

As you probably already know, Trey Ratcliff – the guy behind StuckInCustoms.com, the #1 travel photography blog in the world – released in December a great book called A World in HDR, which I had the pleasure of reading. The book presents the art of HDR mastered by Trey Ratcliff, and it presents it with a very nice sense of humor and passion that it makes you really excited to try it out if you are a beginner, or to improve your skills if you are already a pro.

Trey’s excitement, passion, talent and humor are a extremely evolving reading, getting our interest throughout the whole book. His adventures, trips partners (the urban legend Yuri), tricks and ‘sunsets fixation’ are able to evolve readers off all kinds, those interested in photography, HDR lovers (and also the ‘haters’), art lovers, general readers and those curious people that like stunning images.

The book explains the world of HDR… it gives us an insight about it, what it is, what is the concept about it and how is it that he does it. By the course of the book you will appreciate the whole range of colors so much that you will think why is it that you are not doing your own HDR to share with your lovely ones. You will get so excited about colors, light and tripods that you will finish the book and will run out of your house to try your fist experiment… and as in my case, you will see that is needs more than reading to get to do it right, but at least will will take the first step.

I made here a selection of some of my favorite images from the book and also some of my favorite quotes from Trey. I really recommend this book either you are a photographer wannabe (like me), a pro or a photography lover. The images and reading will surely conquer you… Enjoy!

The Tutorials & Some Further Tips

At chapter 5 you will find tutorials that will guide you through the process of producing a HDR using the Stuck in Customs Style. The tut is easy to follow (even for a beginner like me) and you won’t find those difficult terms or commands that you don’t have a clue about it. But the important thing about this is that Trey also gives a perspective of the whole process, camera, tripod, taking the photo and so on. So if you are really just starting this, you will have now a good background of info to do it. And at chapter 6 he gives us some good advices about software and tools.

I will show you the results of my first HDR attempts to show that if I could manage to achieve this (without having good photoshop skills), you can certainly do better!! I certainly need to go wild on the lights x contrast next time. By the way, my mom said the images look great for a beginner. =)

South American architect, with most of his works in his home country of Chile, Mathias Klotz started being recognized worldwide through his reputable and well established architecture.

Mathias Klotz was born on April 13, 1965 in Vina del Mar, Chile. He started architecture school but was more interested in studying the Arts. He thought that a diploma in architecture would be better for his future than being an artist who could not produce anything useful.

When he finished his studies in 1982, he won right off the bat a contest to construct a house. Klotz, with no previous experience from working in other architect offices, designed three houses different from the rest. These houses caught the eye These homes caught the attention of people seeking the same peculiarities of the above: large spaces without many compartments.

“I realised three houses that were a bit different from common houses because each of them was destined to one person only … I started to receive assignments from people who had seen them, and also assignments for houses with some peculiarity … So time passed and without even realising it, I was working as a professional architect.”

Influences

Growing up as an architect Mathias Klotz knew that there were few post modernists. The first examples of deconstructivism, appeared to him when he graduated. He considers the elements of Modernism correct and well adapted to modern life. He thought Post Modernism broke all these conceptions.

“So, what I think is that this kind of architecture is like a scale in balance among these elements: the rationality almost – how do you call it? – “fundamentalist” of the Modern Movement, and the extreme opposite which is the absolute formalism of Postmodernism, and it believes that the last one is closer to human beings.”

Klotz seeks to work with the local technology of his works. The same happens with the materials, which are sometimes to be perceived as cheap or rare in other countries, but are the materials from the site, most available and used in old buildings.

This concern with the environment and especially with the local culture and history, as Chile is a very extensive territory, presents various types and materials and characteristics of each landscape.

“… for instance if you look at these my first houses – they have been published because they are made of fir wood, that is the most common wood in the world – they have been painted in white and they are in harmony with the landscape, where there are several white buildings nearby, and so on. At the same time in the South of the country there are my houses – the South of the country is much more wooded, and the wood is much better down there … But it’s a mixture of assumptions, the technology available in an area and… the predominant architecture of the area itself.”

Panasonic Real Pro Massage Chair

Massage chairs have come a long way from the back-pinching, coin-operated monstrosities in most shopping malls, and the Panasonic Real Pro Massage Chair ($5,500) is a great example. It features a unique trunk rotation and pelvic tilt function that combines a large seat airbag with a smaller one to grasp and gently twist the seat and thigh area, the Junetsu massage technique that uses one-second circular thumb movements to quickly loosen up tight muscles. MSI Projector PC

MSI is sure in a conceptual mood at this year’s the CES, and one of the odder combinations was this Projector PC. The unit pumps HD video onto a wall at about the quality of a mini projector (though certainly a step above a pico), but for convenience’s sake it has a PC and DVD drive built right in. MSI plans to pair it with a wireless mouse and keyboard for living room use, but we’re still not sure we see a huge advantage over plugging a nettop into a projector — outside of the novelty factor, of course. Microsoft Arc Keyboard

Well, it looks like Microsoft still has a bit more stuff in store for CES that didn’t slip out ahead of its big keynote, with it now announcing its new Arc Keyboard that will exclusive to Best Buy (at least initially). Like its Arc Mouse, this one is slim and high on style, and relatively light on any extraneous features, although you will get a 2.4GHz wireless receiver that can be tucked away in the keyboard, and at least a few extra function keys. Look for this one to be available February 21st for $59.95. (via Engadget)

Processing comes in the form of an Intel Core i7 processor, and graphics is provided by an ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU which is capabale of DirectX 11. Other specifications include up to 1TB of hard drive space, and up to 8GB of RAM, plus support for EAX 4.0 and CMSS 3D surround sound, and it features a 17.3 inch display which is capable of full HD (1080p) in a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Superman has always been my favorite super-hero… but it’s been sometime that Batman caught my attention, since he’s the only DC hero who doesn’t have powers: he’s just one tough dude. And they launched the Superman and Batman comics, I’ve been a total fanboy of them.
