Thus you must plan a marketing campaign that actually does little selling and more connecting. Why? Because this “laid-back” strategy on Twitter is more likely to get you loyal followers interested in what you have to offer.

Let’s look at an imaginary Twitter marketing campaign scenario:

You join Twitter and immediately start tweeting only about your products and services. Every time someone follows you, you send that person a DM (direct message) with a link to one of your sales pages. You use an application to automatically bring your blog feed into your Twitter account, and every one of your blog posts focuses solely on pushing your products and services.

How many people do you think will be interested in continuing to follow you and clicking on your links?

Twitter is effective for marketing purposes only when you realize it is NOT about sales but that it is about relationships.

A different imaginary Twitter marketing campaign scenario:

This time you join Twitter with a marketing strategy in place. You find and follow people who might be interested in what you have to offer but at this point you do NOT tell them about your products and services.

If you still want to send a DM when someone first follows you, make it a personal appreciation for connecting without pushing any of your sales page links. If you really want to include a link, make it to a free report.

In your general tweets you share links to worthwhile articles that relate to your products and services. These articles do not have to be your own; in fact, sometimes they should be to other people’s material.

Then every so often you throw in a tweet about a product or service of yours and include a link. But even in this case what you say can make a difference:

Instead of tweeting:

Buy my super-duper widget right now and you’ll make tons of money in 30 days. You can tweet:

Check out my new widget training program – it can help you attract more visitors to your website.

See how the second tweet is much less selling and much more sharing?

Now if you’ve been sharing worthwhile information connected to this topic, people following you will be more inclined to click on the link because these people are already conditioned to trust you. You’ve established this trust by providing these people with valuable free information on the topic.

In conclusion, the best mindset for developing a Twitter marketing campaign is to take the perspective of your potential clientele/customers: Not constantly tweeting about how great your products and services are; instead consistently tweeting information that will help solve their problems.

And occasionally you can tweet that the products and services you’re selling are the solution to those problems.

Apart from the health issues of sitting in a confined position for too long, we can become a slave to the PC if we’re not careful. Consistently checking email, always being available for online chat, logging into various social networks – all these activities can distract you from the important work that needs to be done each day.

But for Gmail users at least, there is a simple solution available. You may not have noticed, but those clever characters behind Google Labs added a special feature to Gmail last year called “Email Addict”.

When enabled, Email Addict adds a *Take a Break* link to the Gmail navigation at the top right of the screen. When you click on the link, it pops up a message on your screen that says:

“Take a walk, get some real work done, or have a snack. We’ll be back in 14 minutes.”

The message fills the screen and prevents you from accessing the application for 14 minutes. It also makes you invisible in chat.

To activate Email Addict, simply:

1) Login to your Gmail account
2) Click on the *Settings* link at the top right
3) Click on the *Labs* tab on the right
4) Scroll down to find *Email Addict* and enable using the radio button

It’s a nice idea, but you have to manually click on the link to activate it. If you have to remember to take a break and be motivated enough to click the link, it defeats the purpose a little bit, don’t you think? I’d prefer if you could set your own timeframe for breaks and have the pop up activate automatically.

Maybe they’ll add that option in the next version.

Or, another choice is to publish it as a ’static page’…a page that stands on its own…meaning it is literally a separate page with a separate address from your homepage. Your readers access these pages by clicking on a link that you have provided on your blog.

Most often you will find these navigation links listed in the sidebar, on the top near the header and sometimes even at the bottom of the blog page. (Make sure these pages open in a ‘new window’ so that your customer can easily navigate back to the home page…you don’t want to loose them.)

An example of some ’static’ pages that should or can be included on your blog are:

1) About Page: This is probably the most common page used among bloggers and the first place I head to after I’ve read a post I like on a particular blog. Use your ‘About Me’ page to allow your reader get a more personal view of you. This page gives your new readers a glimpse or snapshot of the person behind the posts. You can and should include a picture of yourself. Additionally, you can explain a bit of why they should subscribe to your blog on this page.

2) Contact Page: Many times your readers will have questions after reading through one of your posts…or maybe something captured their interest and they would like to partner with you on a project. Whatever the reason, you should have a page dedicated to contacting you. Without this page, you will never know how many opportunities you may have missed with your readers and potential partners. Someone may even have been impressed enough to want to advertise with you. Make it easy for them to locate this important page…don’t test their patience by making it difficult to locate…they may walk.

3) Disclaimer Page: With the new FTC rulings about bloggers that came out late 2009, it is imperative that you inform your readers what you ‘get out of your blog.’ If you make money from your blog through affiliate associations or ads, you must inform your readers of this fact or risk big trouble from the FTC. You can balance this revelation by explaining to them some of the costs associated with your blog.

4) Service Related Pages: Any kind of services that you may offer your blog readers such as coaching or consultation services should be given their own page. Your readers will be more likely to buy your services from a dedicated page that you have set up than a flash in the pan mention in one of your posts.

5) Best of Page: Also referred to as a ’sneeze page’…not squeeze page! All your most favorite or most popular blog posts can be included on this page. Use this page to highlight anything about your blog that you want front and center or you know your readers will enjoy because of its previous popularity.

6) 404 Page: Most bloggers are aware of their 404 Error page. This error page is what someone sees when they navigate to a broken or deleted link or a link that is not working for some reason. What most bloggers are not aware of is the fact that they can customize this page to their advantage so that readers are directed to what they are looking for. Additionally, it provides the reader with something else to keep their interest. A blank 404 Page is a wasted opportunity.

7) Unique Projects: Should you participate in any kind of event…charity or otherwise, it is always a good idea to create page dedicated to this particular event. This gives the event much more importance and allows those with interest a place to follow up on any dates or updates that they need be aware of.

Testimonial Page: Selling an item or even selling yourself can be much more impressive if you include testimonials from others that have used the product or service and can provide their details. Once again, there are new strict rules concerning using testimonials so make sure you understand the new FTC rulings before placing any on your blog.

Although there are many more choices for pages in your blog, the choices listed above should be included in most blogs. Beyond those, there are no hard core rules on what pages to set up as each individual blog offers something different. You are only limited by your imagination.

Once you have settled on a blogging subject, visit other blogs with similar interests/topics as yours and check out their pages and how they have set up their blog. Great way to get ideas for your own.

Blogging is a platform that is growing by leaps and bounds. It is here to stay. The more you understand what elements are important to your blog the quicker and easier it will be to be successful at blogging.

A logical and structured layout is the best way to go. Not only because your layout varies between browsers, but also

because CSS has a lot of ways to position every element you have. Today we wanted to share with you some quick CSS code

snippets on how to avoid easy pitfalls when creating your CSS layout, some of the following snippets are cross browsers

while others are not. We thought we could share them only if you are looking for a quick fix.

This is the first part in this series as there are SO MANY good tricks out there and if you see an easier or better

methods, then post a comment below or email me so we add it in this series.

1. Hide text with text indent

5. The order of link pseudo-classes

Eric Meyer

explains why the order matters. So in case you came across the “link-visited-hover-active” (LVHA) rule. This holds that

the four link states should always be listed in that order, like so:

a:hover {color: red;}
a:active {color: yellow;}

6. Simple Clearing of floats

One of the simplest and most common layout structures involves the placing of a small, set-width DIV ‘#inner’ within a

larger wrapping DIV ‘#outer’ that contains the remaining content. If ‘#inner’ grows taller than it’s wrapping parent, it

breaks through the bottom edge of ‘#outer’. As we can’t always control the amount of content in these DIVs, it certainly

presents a problem. The markup would be something like

The CSS will look like this

A simple trick to fix this issue is

by adding ‘overflow:auto’ to the outer DIV

7. Creating a Page Break

Snook share a little CSS trick for those who

run blogs: force a page break before the comments so the users have the option to print the article with or without the

comments. If they print just the article then it can stand alone in a nice clean package.

8. Style Your Ordered List

By default, most browsers display the ordered list numbers same font style as the body text. Here is a quick CSS tip on

how you can use the ordered list (ol) and paragraph (p) element to design a stylish numbered list. By <a

“I’m a big fan of layouts that still work if a user increases their browser’s text size. However, I was wondering what

it would be like if any images resized along with the text rather than staying constant in size. Would everything seem

more in proportion?” by Christian Watson. To do this, we

need to use a large image and wrap it in a div which was sized in ems. This enables it to be centered within the div

10. Create a Block Hover Effect for a List of Links

The “block hover” effect for lists of links gives the design an elegant effect. we see this all the time now.

“Because IE only supports the :hover element for links, the link anchor needs to go around all the text in the list item.

Therefore, we need to provide some additional hooks in order to style the content. We do this through the use of

<em> and <span> tags.” by Christian

“Near me now” uses your location aware cellphone (currently only iPhone and Android devices) to search for surrounding businesses by category (restaurants, coffee shops, bars, ATMs and banks, and more), then returns any nearby matches based on their proximity to you. So if you’re standing outside or near a restaurant you’re considering, all it takes is firing up Google, tapping the “Near me now” link, and then choosing the category. It really is considerably faster than typing (especially on mobile devices), and might be worth working into your mobile searching toolkit.

If this has happened to you before here is what I think the main problem is and a solution to deal with it.

If you are an affiliate marketer it is highly likely that you take the following steps when building a successful campaign:

1. You build a landing page to suck in as many leads as possible
2. You follow-up with these leads via a targeted email autoresponder campaign
3. You drive traffic to this new campaign

In a nutshell, you build a highly successful sales funnel, meant to sell a product or several related products, and you drive traffic to that funnel in a number of ways.

After building this successful sales funnel what happens if you don’t seem to be getting any sales? You get plenty of leads coming in, which means your traffic is converting, but the sales seem non-existent. Why is this?

Well, the first thing I would do is check my email follow-up series. There must be something wrong with my email sales copy, or my links, or the way I am pre-selling the offer.

But what if you are getting a ton of clicks to your products but no sales? Is it the product itself that is the issue? This could be. You really cannot be 100% sure of the problem at this point, and you may never know. The product itself could be a dud.

Well, I have had many campaigns like this over the years and I usually would just let them go and move on. That was until I experienced a very successful campaign, which had a consistent sales conversion rate and everything working properly, just stop working. Not a little bit either. The sales went to ZERO, overnight.

I spent some time asking other affiliates about this and found out it was a pretty common problem. I also found out what that problem was and how to combat it too. It is unfortunate that many affiliates do not understand what is really going on with their commissions.

I’ll try to explain a little of what could be happening to your sales in this article.

The most frustrating thing of all is that it is highly possible your sales funnels could be making a ton of sales and that you are just not getting credited with those sales. In other words, you are doing all of the work and someone else is getting your commissions. That doesn’t sit well with me and should not sit well with you either.

The Problem: Affiliate Link Theft

Without getting too technical, here is what is happening.

Your affiliate ID is being changed to someone else’s at the point of sale, either manually by the user, or via spyware on your computer which was placed there at some point while you were online. You could also be a victim of “cookie stuffing” which many affiliates do to try and protect their own commissions from link thieves.

The problem is that this “cookie stuffing” sometimes steals sales from others as well. These “cookie stuffing” affiliates are just trying to protect their own commissions but they don’t realize they are becoming part of the problem.

Any of these things can stop you from receiving credit for the sale even though you’re the one who should have made it. You cannot stop ALL commission thievery online, but to stop any of it at all you must implement affiliate cloaking into your campaigns.

Link cloaking is when you create a redirect, or a hidden frame redirect on your website that hides your affiliate ID’s and makes it nearly impossible for spyware programs to tinker with your affiliate links at the point of sale.

If you start incorporating affiliate cloaking into your business today you can make a huge difference in your bottom line. It is very possible that you are losing 30-50% of the sales that should be yours. I certainly was.

So now that you know you need affiliate cloaking, lets look at the right and wrong ways to do it.

Choosing A Link Cloaking Service

There are tons of programs and software packages online claiming to be able to help you cloak your links. Many of them are offered for free even. I would not suggest that you go with the first one you find for many reasons. You need to make sure that the link cloaker you use has been created specifically for affiliate marketing and not for some “black hat” seo tricks.

There are not as many affiliate cloaking systems as their are seo cloaking and regular link cloaking software programs so you need to be careful what you choose.

Do NOT Use Free Cloaking Services

I understand that everyone is looking for a bargain these days, but when it comes to your affiliate commissions be willing to do what is best for your business. The most notable free link redirection and cloaking services online are those provided by companies like tinyurl.com, bit.ly, budurl.com and others.

These services started out as a way to shorten long URL’s but have recenly been taking steps to supply affiliates with link cloaking too.

The problem with many of these services is that they don’t work with every kind of affiliate link or program, and many times will actually hinder your ability to get visitors to your site!

The horror stories are too numerous of people who used redirection services such as TinyURL and Bit.ly and lost commissions. Many spammers use these services to try and cloak their links too, which results in many of these links not being accepted as viable URL’s by spam filters and other email services.

It is in your best interest to not use these services at all.

The Best Link Cloaking Service

The best link cloaker is one that you can upload to your own servers so you don’t have to worry about anything breaking down or not working properly.

This means you could create a separate website to house ALL of your cloaked links, or upload the cloaking script to each individual website you are promoting and create site specific links.

Depending on which way you want to go (I actually use both methods) it can be difficult to accomplish any of it if you are not a web programmer, or don’t want to outsource the project to someone you are not sure you can trust.

With all of the different options available out there in regards to link cloaking it is very important to spend some time learning about the concept from an affiliate marketing standpoint. Once I got hooked up with the right cloaking systems my commissions doubled practically overnight for many of the products I was originally having trouble selling.

Yesterday I signed up for the free 21 day trial of Peashoot, a campaign manager for links you post on Twitter, Facebook and your blog. It’s created by Yongfook who some of you might be familiar with as the coder behind Sweetcron, one of the first open source lifestreaming applications.

What does it do?

Peashoot allows you to create and monitor link campaigns, i.e. a link you post to your Twitter stream of Facebook page. Creating campaigns are straightforward thanks to a clean and usable interface. It also allows you to associate goals with your campaigns. One example of a goal might be to reach 100 people from Germany, another might be to receive 10 retweets of your link.

Reporting

Each campaign has an extensive report screen detailing the number of clicks, tweets, conversions (you are able to hook into your own Google Analytics account) and revenue. It also offers a number of graphs and charts dissecting where and when your link was clicked. The real time updating Google map is a nice touch.

In order to do this Peashoot uses it’s own URL shortening service. All links will start with http://pea.to/ although you can use a custom domain for your links if you have access to your domain’s DNS settings. If you associate your Google Analytics account with Peashoot all links will include campaign details which will then be tracked.

Other nice features include the ability to collect mentions of your link from social media services and the option of tracking keywords associated with your brand on Twitter.

Another reporting tool?

As many of you are aware services like http://bit.ly, a free service, offer excellent tracking facilities (just enter a + sign after any bit.ly URL to see the stats for that link).

In my opinion Peashoot is different. The ability to create campaigns, link it into Google Analytics and the extensive tracking and reporting tools make it a nice complimentary tool to statistics offered by services like bit.ly.

Issues

When signing up you do have to enter your payment details upfront, therefore you will get billed after the 21 days unless you remember to cancel. It’s a small point but one worth mentioning. I also encountered a slight issue with integrating Google Analytics. The settings screen states I am connected but the detail page does not list any accounts.

Pricing

Three plans are available. Basic $17 a month, Pro $25 a month or Pro Yearly for $149 a month.

Verdict: Recommended

It’s a nice addition to your statistics and tracking software arsenal. Paying yearly brings the cost down to around $12.40 a month which is pretty good value if you use services like Twitter to publish links and need a way of working out how effective they are.

There are sites where you can paste a long, ugly url into a form, and the site will give you a much shorter url to use in your emails, newsletters and promotions.

There are also scripts that you can install on your server, that allow you to generate your own shortened urls, which is what I prefer, due to the great control it gives you.

In-case you are not using the tiny urls, you’re probably losing a lot of sales and traffic. The benefits of using shortened urls typically include:

• They allow you to conserve space when posting to micro- blogging platforms such as Twitter, where each of your posts is limited to a mere 140 characters.
• They look more professional than long, unwieldy affiliate urls (especially if they have your own domain name in them). Longer urls can wrap to two lines in your emails, forcing many readers to copy and paste the pieces of the link before they can visit a recommended page. Many won’t jump though that hoop!
• They allow you to log into a control panel and change where a particular link sends traffic without you having to track down all of the places where you have placed that link and manually swapping them out. This comes in handy if you are promoting a particular product, and due to whatever reason, you decide to promote a different product in the same category.

There are also times when affiliate programs change the software that power things, forcing you to change your affiliate links for a given product. If you use the right url shortener, you would merely need to log in to your control panel, click an edit button, change the destination link, and all of your links scattered across cyberspace now STILL point to where you want them to.

This is essential for ebooks, because once an ebook is in your customers’ hands you can’t update those links in most cases. Only ebooks that connect to the Internet each time that they are read (which most of MY customer don’t like) allow you to change links inside the ebook after it’s distributed.

There are literally dozens of third-party link shortening services. I’ve used several of them and they work great except that they control YOUR links. If they get any complaints, or simply decide to change their business model, they could kill off all your links instantly.

Premium, third-party url shortening services also hold you hostage. They charge you a monthly fee for extras, or for the ability to have more than a handful of urls on their platform. Some charge you extra if you generate more than a few thousand clicks – they penalize you for being successful.

If you stop paying for these premium services, they often shut off all of your links INSTANTLY. Once you have all those links floating around cyberspace (in ebooks, articles, ads, press releases, ezine editorials, etc.) you don’t want to just kill them off, so you’re STUCK often paying hefty fees, month after month.

I recently looked at one service that had the audacity to charge $97 per month to allow you to “white label” their third-party service, and use your own domain name with their service. Using your own domain name within shortened links is a great idea because it brands you and your domain. If properly configured, it also passes along “link love” from the search engines, and helps you to rank higher for your keywords.

However, paying a monthly fee is unnecessary, and therefore wasteful. Instead invest that money in another area of growing your business.

Here’s the better solution that I use…

I’ve installed an inexpensive link shortening script, that works just like those third-party hosted shorteners, on my OWN server. I paid less than $40 for this script AND I own it and can use it forever, on as many of my own domains as I want to (in-accordance-with the terms of their license).

Think about it. If you’re using one of those services that cost just $30 per month, you’ll save $360 per year using the solution that I use. You’ll save $1164 per year compared to that company charging $97 per month!

Heck I could even offer MY OWN url shortening service to my customers if I wanted to, using this same under-$40 script. I don’t because spammers love these services, and would harm my brand and the reputation of my domain name.

That’s another reason why you don’t want to use a third- party hosted url shortening service. Many ISP’s get so many complaints about emails containing urls from some of these services, that they filter against emails containing some of their domain names. It does no good to build a list of 50,000 if only 20% of your email gets through because of a poor decision that you made. You’re missing 80% of potential sales.

If you are the only one sending out from the domain name that your url shortening script resides on, and you market ethically, you should not have this problem of being blocked by spam filters.

I’ve just shared with you some things that most marketers using url shortening services never really give much thought. Now that you understand these things, you can set up links that will work for you long-term, brand you and your domains, cost you very little, and provide all of the benefits that led many marketers to use those third-party hosted solutions in the first place. The big difference will be that you’ll be in-charge of your links instead of being a hostage to those third-party url shortening services.

Movie posters are known for a brief introduction of what the movie all about. Every movie has a poster for its publicity and marketing purpose. Now over the past few years, we’ve continuously seen a boom of posters and DVD covers continuing to appropriate the style.

A good poster is a very easy job for an regular artist but a creative poster takes a lot amount of time and thinking for one or more group of artists which however, reaches beyond the simple advertisement work to a piece of art and the outcome is so wonderful then a regular movie poster that it made movie memorable. Still there are exceptions in which movie rating was really low but the posters are really inspirational.

The New York Times’ Bits blog is reporting that FCC head honcho Julius Genachowsi — the man in the middle of the net neutrality initiatives and the Google-Apple disputes — has fallen victim to the fraudulent activity of scammers on Facebook.

Mr. Genachowski apparently inadvertently passed around a malicious link to his Facebook friends via Facebook’s messaging system. Facebook confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that Genachowski’s account was compromised and that it has been flagged as is standard procedure. As of right now, Genachowski’s account is nowhere to be found on Facebook.

In fact, Facebook stated that Genachowski — just like everyone else — will need to take a few additional steps should he wish to reinstate his account. “Users whose accounts have been compromised are put through a remediation process, where they must take steps to re-secure their account and learn security best practices. This is what happened with Chairman Genachowski’s account.”

According to the report on the incident:

On Friday morning at around 10:30 a.m., Mr. Genachowski sent his Facebook friends this puzzling message: “Adam got me started making money with this.” It was followed by a link to a Web page that is no longer active. The messages indicated that Mr. Genachowski’s account had been taken over by a malicious program that was using it to send out spam.

As of Friday afternoon Mr. Genachowski’s Facebook profile was no longer visible on the site. A Facebook spokesman, Larry Yu, said the company learned of the problem this morning and suspended the account, as it routinely does in such cases. An F.C.C. spokeswoman said Mr. Genachowski was vacationing and declined to comment further.

This latest incident draws even more attention to an exacerbating problem that Facebook and Twitter face around scammers finding ways to infiltrate their networks with infectious and malicious messages. It also serves as yet another reason to always be wary of suspicious looking tweets, messages and status updates.

Let’s start with the Blue Dock Berry Theme - This BlackBerry theme is centered around the wallpaper which is an xray of a laptop and the black and blue color scheme. It has 2 app slots in the banner for weather or meterberry or anything you’d like to always see. Large percentage battery meter and space bar launches quicklaunch. There are also 2 hideable docks the first of which has messaging apps along with calendar and contacts. The second dock is user defined. With this theme you can choose how you want it to look by hiding the docks, leaving both open, or exposing only 1 or the other. The messaging screens have a black backround that causes the blue look like it’s glowing. All in all, it’s a very fun theme! 8900, Tour and 9700.  You can get one HERE

For those who like the dramatic effect of smoke and give your phone that Techie feel.  Everyone please welcome a new theme to the list! “Smoke Screen” covers 8900, 9630, 9000, and 9700! “Smoke Screen” is a very light looking theme, with black icons and a light grey clearish background on the icons.

Highlighting the icons with a white selected brings out the oomph of the icons, making them stand out so you know exactly what you are selecting. As per norm, the theme as a weather slot in the right corner of the screen, along with a hidden today area for messages and calendar.

The banners is a white to transparent with black colors so you can clearly see date, time and all needed information about your device.

Another cool one is The Stars and Sparkles Theme.  The theme is for  83xx, 85xx, 89xx, 90xx, 95xx, 96xx and 97xx .  It has your basic sparkles and stars that can add glitter to your BlackBerry.  Most recommended for the ladies who want to add a bit of bling on their phones.
