"Simply include ‘itunes.apple.com/’ or ‘market.android.com/’ followed by the app name in the ad’s visible URL, and it will automatically display as ‘Download iPhone App’ or ‘Download Android App,’" says Katrina Kurnit of Google’s Inside AdWords crew.

Advertisers also have the option to select specific devices or carriers for their ads in general.

"If you’ve chosen to show ads on iPhones and other mobile devices with full internet browsers, you can now target specific mobile devices or carriers," says Kurnit. "This feature makes it easier for you to reach the right users if you have a carrier- or device-specific message. This includes landing pages that have been optimized for a specific device, billing relationships with certain carriers, or mobile apps developed for a specific platform. For example, if you sell iPhone cases, you can use device targeting to ensure that users with Android phones won’t see your ads."

Mobile Internet usage is expected to continue to increase rapidly. That means a lot of people using a lot of different mobile devices through multiple carriers. Google’s new targeting options could become increasingly important in getting your ads seen by the right people, depending on what you are advertising.

Apart from its far easier-to-navigate interface, Avast has a few new features that make it hard to turn down. Its new code emulator can emulate a suspicious executable’s code, isolated, for use in its new heuristics engine, designed to detect malware that would otherwise be undetectable with normal definitions—in other words, spotting malware by learning what the code does. If you use the pro version, you also get their new sandboxing feature for even further protection.

Apart from the new features, Avast has also lowered scanning times as well as the resources necessary to scan and update—a common issue with antivirus programs that are always running in the background. If you’re already an Avast lover (and many of you are), you can either wait for the program to update itself in the near future or go download 5.0 straight from Avast. If you’ve tried Avast and turned it down before, it may be worth another look—you may find that its former cons (such as the difficult-to-use GUI and resource use) are now more up to your standards.

jQuery lint’s main objective is to notify you of incorrect usages of jQuery’s API. So, if you pass incorrect arguments to any method then jQuery Lint will let you know. It compares your arguments to the argument signatures in jQuery’s API.

How to Use

To use it, you need to include it, after jQuery, in your document:

Features Include:

• - Reports via Firebug, although you can quite easily plug-in your own console mechanism.
• - Has four different error-reporting levels, zero reports nothing, three will report everything, including small things like using css().css().css() instead of css({…}).

Nightly Chrome Updater won’t automatically update your system, and it technically only grabs the latest build for Windows systems. But a commenter at the extension’s page suggests it only takes a little tweaking to make it a viable download for the nightly Mac builds:

If anyone uses a mac (or linux) and wants to make this work for their system (instead of downloading .exes), you can modify popup.html (in the extension dir. ~/Application Support/Chromium/{profile}/Extensions/{extensionid}/1.1/popup.html on OS X). All you need to do is replace chromium-rel-xp with chromium-rel-mac, and mini_installer.exe with chrome-mac.zip

You could, theoretically, pull off the same type of hack for nightly Linux builds but, then again, there are dedicated repositories that can automatically keep your browser up to date on the most unstable, buggy, don’t-call-us-when-everything-fails-to-work builds.

So you get the latest and greatest ideas in Chrome in your browser, like the extensions that arrived in the nightly builds long before they showed up in the betas. You also get builds that might have some broken aspects and, in some rare occasions, might fail to load on your system altogether—at least until the next build comes along.

Greetings, music fans! After a bit of holiday hiatus, we’re happy to report it’s another Free Music Monday for your listening pleasure. If you’ve tuned in previously you’ll know we’re celebrating the #musicmonday tradition on Twitter.

We pick 10 tracks from around the web and offer you either links to the downloads or streams, or embed the streams when possible. Our last feature was a special Video Edition, and this week we’re catching up on the backlog of all your great submissions. Each entry this week includes at least one free MP3 download for your listening pleasure.

1. Brian Ray: “I Found You” — When not busy touring with Paul McCartney’s band, guitarist, bass player, songwriter and native Californian Brian Ray pens solo rock tunes like this. Stream it for free from the previous link and snag a free download too (right-click to save it to your desktop).

2. Róisín Murphy: “Momma’s Place” — Irish producer and singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy is perhaps best known as the former frontwoman for electronica duo Moloko, and has gone on to a critically acclaimed solo career. Right-click for a free download of her latest single, out now with an EP of remixes on iTunes [iTunes link].

3. Impediments: “You Want a Square” — Four teenagers from Oakland are responsible for this fun post-punk garage rock song with surf and psychedelia highlights. Snag a free download by right-clicking, grab another track from the Free Music Archive and check out the band on MySpace.

4. Jump Clubb: “A Frozen Hug” — A little bit of techno, a little bit of disco, a little bit of electropop and some various genres to taste. Grab two free MP3s from their site.

5. Matt McCloskey: “These Times Won’t Last” — Get Austin singer-songwriter Matt McCloskey’s full album as a free download for a limited time — just enter your e-mail address to receive the download link.

6. Milkman: Lactose and THC — San Diego-based mashup artist and producer Milkman has his sophomore release up for sale, but is offering his debut album for free streaming and download.

7. Kirsten DeHaan: “1984″ — Indie singer-songwriter Kirsten DeHaan offers Mashable readers a free download: right-click to snag the MP3 for “1984.” This New York-based artist recently put out the Thorns on a Crown EP, available from her website.

8. Elspeth: “Old Age” — Irish rockers Elspeth are a five-piece indie group who have been gigging widely in the UK since coming together in March 2009. Right-click for a free download of the “Old Age” MP3 and check out more about the band on their MySpace page.

9. Caroline Herring: “Tales of the Islander” — The fourth album from Atlanta-based Mississippi native Caroline Herring invokes Americana roots and iconic folk females with a mix of originals and covers showcasing Herring’s strong and complex vocals. She offers Mashable readers a free download of “Tales of the Islander” (right-click to snag it).

10. The Brothers Streep: “Anna Paquin” — Equal parts humorous and harmonious, The Brothers Streep serve up this tribute to the True Blood and X-Men star for your free download pleasure (right-click to get it). More free tunes are available on their website.

The beauty of using JavaScript for data visualization is that, if created correctly, your data will be highly accessible (usually via HTML tables). A long time ago (2008), I wrote about JavaScript solutions for graphing and charting data and this article revisits the topic with twenty more JavaScript libraries that you can use to bring your data to life.

1. Highcharts

Highcharts is one of the most promising JavaScript charting libraries to hit the scene recently, with its large array of features including seven charting types (line, pie, and bar among them),  the ability to zoom in and out of charts, and tooltips for offering more information about data points. The library has many options for customization and they’re well documented on one page for easy referencing.

2. gRaphaël

gRaphaël is a charting library based on Raphaël, a vector graphics drawing JavaScript library. The library is divided into sub-libraries so that you can just download the type of chart that you’re interesting in creating. With the main library, g.raphael.js, at only 12KB and sub-libraries between 4KB to 8KB, this can be a lightweight but fully featured JavaScript charting solution for web developers.

3. JavaScript InfoVis Toolkit

JavaScript InfoVis, a charting library influenced partly by MooTools, is a robust and excellent solution for data visualization. It’s modular (just like MooTools) so that you can include just the parts you need to keep your pages light. It has animation effects capability to captivate and engage your users, plenty of charting types, a helper class for working with JSON data, and much more.

4. jQuery Visualize Plugin

If you’re already using jQuery, it’d be performance conscious of you to look into plugins for your visualization requirements. jQuery Visualize, a plugin developed by the Filament Group (the core developers of jQuery UI), is a jQuery plugin for generating charts using HTML5’s canvas element. It has 14 options for customizing your charts. Don’t forget to try out their Configurable demo.

5. moochart

For now, moochart only plots bubble diagrams, but there are plans to expand this MooTools 1.2 plugin to feature pie, line, and bar graphs. The plugin has 14 options that you can use for customizing your diagram’s look, and tooltips for providing more information about a bubble when mousing over them. moochart is open source and released under the MIT license.

6. JS Charts

JS Charts boasts easy usage by emphasizing on the end-user’s ability to use the library with little to no coding, making it ideal for web designers who’d like to chart data without spending too much time learning how to write JavaScript. JS Charts has a web-based GUI and offers hosting for your charts to take some load off your own servers. It supports three chart types: bar, pie, and line.

7. dygraphs

dygraphs is a JavaScript library for producing interactive charts for time series data. It was designed to plot dense data sets (such as temperature fluctuations). It has user interfacing options such giving the user the ability to specify time intervals on the fly, displaying of values when mousing over parts of the chart, and zooming. It also integrates with the Google Visualization API.

8. JSXGraph

JSXGraph, developed at the University of Bayreuth in Germany, is a standalone JavaScript library for plotting complex geometric shapes and data such as Bezier curves, differential equations, and much more. It has animation features for moving graphs, interactive components such as sliders for experimenting with changing values of variables, and plenty of charting types to choose from.

9. Protochart

Protochart is a JavaScript library for use with the Prototype JS framework. It uses HTML5’s canvas for modern browsers, and the ExCanvas library for Internet Explorer support. It has six types of charts including line, pie, bars, points, lines with points, and area graphs. It allows for the display of legends that are highly configurable to help identify items on your charts.

10. Bluff

Bluff is a lightweight charting library that ports Ruby’s Gruff gem to JavaScript. Weighing at only 11KB gzip’ed (you also need JS.Class which only weighs 2.6KB gzip’ed), it’s surprising that you’ll be able to get 15 different types of charts out of this library. It features tooltips, a ton of configurable options, legend support, and the .set_theme method for declaring reusable themes.

11. Style Chart

Style Chart is a free JavaScript-based charting web service/API for creating hosted charts. It’s also available as a downloadable library in case you want to host your own charts (though you need to register in order to download it). It has the things you’d expect from a robust and configurable charting library such as tooltips, legends, and 19 types of charts including 3D pie, 3D bar graphs and Pareto charts.

12. jqPlot

jqPlot is another jQuery plugin for data visualization developed by Chris Leonello. It’s open source, embodying two sets of licensing: MIT and GPL version 2. It has many options for you to take advantage of in order to truly customize your charts.

13. jQuery Sparklines

jQuery Sparklines is a simple and lightweight jQuery plugin for charting dynamic sparklines (a condensed data graphic). It emphasizes on ease of use and minimal coding; you can create complex sparklines with as little as one line of JavaScript code. When minified and gzip’ed, the plugin only weights 4.7KB so it won’t bog down your page response times much.

14. jQuery Google Charts

jQuery Google Charts (abbreviated as jGCharts), developed by Massimiliano Balestrieri, is a data visualization jQuery plugin for working with the Google Charts API. It has plenty of chart types, including a 3D pie chart that’s dynamically generated. It has a GUI in development (still in alpha release), which will allow you to create charts easily with a graphical front-end.

15. Canvas Pie Chart with Tooltips

This MooTools class/plugin is for plotting pie charts using the canvas element. It’s based on Canvas pie by Stoyan Stefanov. It’s a simple and straightforward data visualization option for MooTools developers who are only interested in plotting out pie charts.

16. TufteGraph

TufteGraph is a jQuery plugin that emphasizes on ease of use and minimalism. It offers you only a few options for styling and instead relies on CSS for customizing the look and feel of your graphs, which ultimately means that your web pages will render faster because JS has to work less. 17. Timeline

Timeline is a JavaScript widget for creating interactive timelines. You can scroll through items featured in chronological order by using your mousewheel or by holding down your mouse button on the timeline and dragging left or right. Clicking on a dot, which represents an item in the time line, will reveal more information. Timeline is open source, released under the BSD license.

18. Protovis

Protovis is a data visualization library for charting data. Protovis was created by the Stanford Visualization Group. It uses JavaScript and SVG to dynamically plot out your data. Protovis is open source released under the BSD license. You can download the source on their home page.

19. milkchart

milkchart is a JavaScript charting/graphing library that requires MooTools. milkchart renders HTML data tables into one of its five types of charts: column, bar, line, scatter, and pie (with future expansions planned for area graphs) using HTML5’s Canvas element. milkchart is open source under the Apache License.

20. Timeplot

Timeplot allows you to dynamically generate time series graphs. Hovering over data points reveals their value. Timeplot was developed as part of the SIMILE Project at MIT. BPM filtering, font changing, podcast importing, and reorganization join the regular bug fixes to make Amarok a more stable and streamlined media player.

Podcasting may have seen the biggest amount of new features this time around, with OPML importing, HTML information, download limiting, and update interval customization as some of the top improvements. The download limiting especially should improve performance and give you back some of your used memory if Amarok was using too much. In addition, podcasts now group better and can automatically download logos for each of your shows.

The Amarok developers threw in some fun new features, too, such as the return of custom labels and a new moodbar that lets you change the color of the progress bar to fit your current mood. Font settings are editable, lyrics are easier to tweak, and you can also filter your music by BPM. There are tons of new fixes for this release, so if you’d like to see more, check out the release notes for more information.

Amarok is a free download, for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X 10.5. Note, however, that Windows and Mac builds are not officially supported, and are “download at your own risk.”

His latest build, ChromiumOS Zero, adds Chrome extension support, speed boosts, and other goodies.

Here’s the official list of updates at Hexxeh’s blog, with notable improvements in the delay suffered by Broadcom-based Wi-Fi and the Chromium browser at the heart of the OS. The build still fits on a 1 GB USB drive, surprisingly, can be updated in-system from this release forward, and is offered as a BitTorrent download from Hexxeh’s site.

Wanna give ChromiumOS Zero a go on your own laptop from the safety of a USB stick? Check out Gina’s human’s guide to running Google Chrome OS, which details running a Hexxeh-based build from a thumb drive.

ChromiumOS Zero is a free download, and boots (usually) on non-Mac systems.

Feeling adventurous? If so, you can try out the release candidate of the upcoming new version of Firefox, 3.6. The 7.7 MB download will give you a taste of what’s to come in this version, and we’re talking about some very interesting changes.

Firefox 3.6 runs on the well tested Gecko 1.9.2 web rendering platform, bringing support for new web technologies, better speed, stability, faster startup and load times, as well as improved Javascript performance.

As far as new features go, perhaps the most interesting one is Personas, which lets users change the appearance of the browser with one click. Furthermore, the new Firefox will alert you when your plugins are out of date, and finally, it’s optimized for small device operating systems, for example Windows CE and Maemo.

Use Photograbber to snag them right off Facebook yourself.

Once installed, Photograbber searches your friends’ Wall posts for any pictures they’ve tagged and posted—that’s tagged photos of you and tagged photos of your friends. Choose which friend’s photos you want, click download, and that’s it. They’ll automatically be dumped to your desktop unless you specify another location.

A couple of things to know: First, Photograbber doesn’t display thumbnail images of pictures so if you just do a blind download you won’t know ahead of time what pictures you’re getting. Instead, visit your friend’s Facebook page first to get a glimpse.

Second, downloading pictures with Photograbber is an all-or-nothing affair. You can’t pre-select which photos you want—you’ll get them all. On the other hand, that’s a real time saver if you’re trying to grab all 219 photos your mom posted from Aunt Clara’s birthday party.

Last, Facebook photos are among the most compressed images on the planet, so don’t expect to get any print-quality images out of it. Photograbber can only download pictures if your friends privacy settings allow. As long as their profile and application settings allow for “‘Everyone’ or ‘Only Friends’ to see and share photos,” you should be good to go.

Today we are glad to release Pictodeck, a set of over 700 pictograms in vector format designed specifically for Keynote. That means you can rescale them to any size you desire without any loss in quality. All of the icons also support transparency. The set was created by Aaron Richard. The icons are from four different sets: PICOL, Android Icons, Pictoico, and Freshpixel. All are licensed slightly differently under Creative Commons. Please respect their copyrights.

The last slide contains a series of 32×32 bitmap icons for popular social networking sites. These icons were created by Komodo Media, which has also graciously chosen to license them under the Creative Commons.

You can use the set for all of your projects for free and without any restrictions. You can freely use it for both your private and commercial projects, including software, online services, templates and themes. Total Baby -  This is one of the best sellers in the app store, costs US$4.99 to download.  This is a must have high tech accessories for parents.  The application allows parents to log the time of every aspect for caring for your child, Track the time, diaper change, feeding, doctor’s appointment.

And a quick note:  Make sure you adjust the settings on parental control so that your kids will only see what you want them to see while they use your phone.

Blogsessive recommends WP WebHost for quality WordPress blog hosting!

The wonderful community of WordPress developers constantly provides us with interesting new themes and plugins. I have scanned the most recent WordPress plugin releases and came up with a list of 10 plugins definitely worth taking a look at.

Keep in might that these are new releases and so, their stability and status should be considered as BETA. You might want to test them on a backup server before going live. The descriptions listed here are those submitted by the plugins’ authors and do not necessarily express my views.

1. WP Content Slideshow

WP Content Slideshow shows up to 5 Posts in a very nice and powerfull Javascript Slideshow. On the left side of the Slideshow it displays an image for every post. On the right side, there are all the titles (and a small description under the title) of the posts. The Slideshow highlights the active post and repeats automatically after getting to the 5th post. You have a powerfull Administration Area to adjust the category, the number of posts, the width and height, and many colours for the Slideshow!

2. Sidebar Generator

Now you can create as many sidebars as you need for any page you want. Thats right, page/post specific sidebars. You can easily seperate your site into sections, or make every single page have specific sidebar content on it. Great for CMS sites.

3. WordPress Tabs Slides

Tabs and Slides (in post/page) Plugin gives you the ability to easily add content tabs and/or content slides. The tabs emulate a multi-page structure, while the slides emulate an accordion-like structure, inside a single page!

4. Custom Login Page

With the Custom Login Page, you can change the background image of your login page, the background image/color of your login form div, the main logo image of your login page, and add custom CSS. All through a simple interface. Remember to view the Help tab at the top of the settings page of the plugin.

5. Featured Page Widget

Allows you to feature pages on your sidebar using an excerpt of the page and a text or image link to the page.

Ecwid is free full-fledged shopping cart that can be easily add to any blog. It offers the performance and flexibility you need, with none of the hassles you don’t.

7. SubHeading

This plugin uses a custom field to allow subheadings to be added to both posts and pages. The custom sub heading field is re-positioned so that it is displayed directly below the main title.

8. ShowTime Slideshow

Displays all pictures attached to a post/page as a slideshow. Simple setup. This plugin requires Adobe Flash, reverts nicely to default WordPress gallery if Flash is not found. Choose among high quality transitions. Ken Burns (pan&zoom) and many other effects. Full Screen mode.

9. Quick Adsense

Quick Adsense is an Ads management WordPress plugin. It offers a quicker & flexible way to insert Adsense or any Ads code into a blog post. Besides, it can randomly place the Ads anywhere within a post. It comes with a simple setting page, and it does not overwhelm you with complicated customizable options.

10. Members

Members is a plugin that extends your control over your blog. It’s a user, role, and content management plugin that was created to make WordPress a more powerful CMS. The plugin is created with a components-based system — you only have to use the features you want.

Foursquare, the location-based game and social networking app, has been quietly testing its BlackBerry application with handful of users for the past month or so.

This afternoon, the company sent out an invite to about one thousand additional people so they can download and try the app too.

Word is spreading fast, and the download link quickly found its way into our inbox, so I decided to try it out. In all, the app certainly marks a big advance for BlackBerry users (who thus far have been relegated to using the Foursquare mobile site — m.foursquare.com) and includes most of the features users of Foursquare on iPhone and Android are already familiar with.

Upon logging in, you’ll immediately see where your friends are at, and have the options to either checkin or shout. Like the Android and iPhone apps, Foursquare will show you nearby venues too based on either GPS or nearby cell towers (though I’m currently out of range of any listed venues, so can’t verify the accuracy). You’ll be able to see each venue on a map, who the mayor is, and who has checked in recently.

When viewing your friend’s profiles, you can quickly call, text, email them, or jump to their Twitter profile. You can also opt to have Foursquare show pop-up alerts when your friends check-in. Foursquare’s recent addition of Facebook support is also included, so you can broadcast any of your check-ins to your friends on there too.

In all, as a relative newcomer to Foursquare with both a BlackBerry and a Droid, the app seems fairly complete – especially for a beta – and quite good for a BlackBerry app in general. We’ll humor Foursquare and not post the download link (per their email), but if you’re one of the folks who has checked it out, let us know what you think in the comments.

The photos and textures are organized by categories so it’s easy to find a resource that suits for your project. The number of categories is pretty decent, the resources is being organized in 15 categories (Abstract, Animal, Architecture, Flower, Food, Insect, Landscape / Skyline, Nature, Objects, Transportation, Miscellaneous, Religious, Technology, Texture / Background, People).

The website is pretty straight forward without complex navigation and other extra stuff. You just point to the category you are interested in and browse through the photos. If you are looking for something specific, there is, of course a search option.

The images offered for download are high-resolution and the quality is great.

The collection of free stock photos is quite extensive, with over 650 items available for download. Here are a few examples :
