OMGTwitterisdownagain. Or extremely flaky, at least. This time, the problems seem to occur only when trying to access the Twitter website, as the API seems to be fully functional and thus not causing any trouble for third-party clients.

Search also seems to work fine, as you can tell from all the people tweeting that Twitter is down for them – go figure.

We’ll keep it short and sweet: use a third-party client for your tweeting needs or find something else to do (like blog about the fact that Twitterisdownagain).

The official Magento blog has announced the availability of the Magento CE Version 1.4.0.1.

You are free to download it but you’d better backup your database before you upgrade to the latest version of Magento. In case you plan to upgrade through a Magento Connect Manager, don’t forget to check file permissions.

Note: the Magento Team suggests disabling Magento cache before upgrading.

As usual, new features as well as fixed issues are provided at the release notes page. Diff files are also available for download.

If you have any problem or you find any bug, please report it in the bug tracker.

At the end of this article we’d like to share a few important notes that are published on the official Magento blog.

Important Note 1: If the Magento Compilation Module is enabled it must be disabled before attempting to upgrade. After upgrading is done, click on “Run Compilation Process” to process and enable it again.

Important Note 2: If you are running Magento in a cluster environment and are using a shared cache (e.g. Memcached) you will now need to also make sure to configure Magento to use Database as the “slow” backend cache.”

There are times when I have wanted to install a plugin on my blog. The usual process included loading the admin dashboard and going to the install plugin page, or bookmarking the install plugin page and then navigating to it using that.

Now I also want to access another feature in the admin dashboard, so I go ahead and bookmark it. Bookmarking pages is definitely a good way to quickly jump to certain pages, however, it is not exactly productive.

That was until I came across an excellent bookmarklet, which will allow users to quickly access the the WordPress sidebar menu items with a single click. Once you drag and drop the bookmarklet to your browser bookmark bar, you can click on it to access the admin menu for a particular site. Take a look at the screenshot below to see it in action.

Once you click on the bookmarklet, a WordPress like menu will be displayed to you, you can hover over the menu to see the sub-menus and options available under the menu. Clicking on the link will take you directly to the admin page of the current site you are browsing.

I emphasized on the text above, as this is the only flaw I saw with the bookmarklet. It will only work for the site you are currently browsing and not a site you can choose it to work for. So technically you will have to browse to your own site before you can get this to work properly for you.

That aside, this is a really useful bookmarklet and will definitely come in pretty handy. Visit the link below to add the bookmarklet to your browser’s bookmark bar.
