By contrast, natural landscapes by night are, well, very dark, and difficult to capture in all their glory. The exception to this rule, as you’ll see, comes when natural light displays like forest fires and auroras play a role.

HDR enhances natural colours and light levels, so it’s often hard for the viewer to tell that the HDR method has been employed. Some photographers, however, push things further to create completely distorted visual realities. It’s clear from the 24 photos below that HDR and wildlife photography is a winning combination, as the technique is capable of doing justice to the spectacular array of colours found in nature.

1. Tree Frog

Tree frogs are among the most colourful animals in the world. HDR only acts to enhance the brilliant green colour of this particular specimen.

2. Screech-Owl

Each whiskery feather is visible in this wonderful HDR photo of a screech-owl, taken in Florida. There are 21 known species of screech-owl and new ones are being discovered all the time.

3. Cow

This rather bedraggled looking cow was photographed in Malham, Yorkshire, England. The hair on the animal’s face is particularly defined.

4. Baby Monkey

A gorgeous baby monkey devours a snack. The gold colour of its eyes and the hairs on top of its head are particularly stunning. Each individual fold on its wrinkly face is visible.

5. Caiman Lizard

A red-faced caiman lizard smiles for the camera.

6. Wild Horse

This wild beast can be found roaming around the fjords of Iceland. The photographer got in really close and used a wide-angled lens to make the animal’s head as large and cute-looking as possible.

7. Heron

A tricolored heron stands on a small island in Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Florida. This image is a perfect example of how HDR photography can be used to create an oil painting-like effect.

8. Lizard

HDR brings out the rainbow colours of this lizard’s facial scales. This shot was taken in Mexico with a Nikon D80 camera and a 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens. It was processed with Photomatix and Lightroom.

9. Bison

A bison grazes in Gibbon Meadow, Yellowstone National Park.

10. Elk

Another shot from Yellowstone National Park. This time it’s an elk traversing a vibrant landscape.

11. Iguana

Otherwise dull, the intensity of this reptile’s eye, made up of volcanic yellow and red tones, is truly stunning.

12. Spider Monkey

This playful, inquisitive spider monkey was spotted outside the Batu caves near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

13. Deer

Sunlight shines through the trees, casting a shadow on the back of a wild deer and illuminating its beady eye.

14. Horses

A horse and its foal pose for the camera in an overcast English field.

15. Robin

A solitary, red-breasted and very round robin perches on a branch.

16. Mallards

A male and female mallard take a stroll along the dock at Lake Tahoe. This HDR image was captured in March 2007 with a Nikon D200 camera.

17. Stag

A fallow stag is spotted in Dyrham Park, South Gloucestershire, England. This photo was shot from a quarter of a mile away.

18. Squirrel

Ever alert, this squirrel spots the camera at just the right moment.

19. Mute Swans

A graceful pair of mute swans look absolutely stunning against this glowing, orangey, evening sky.

20. Deer

This charismatic animal seems just as interested in the photographer as the photographer is of it. HDR brings out the orange-brown colour of its face and adds clarity to its hairy ears.

21. Heron

The colours in this shot are so intense. The photographer post-processed the image using Tiffen DFX.

22. Chameleon

What better animal to demonstrate the colour capabilities of HDR than the vibrant chameleon. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 500D and edited with Photomatix.

23. Rainbow Boa

This rainbow boa, so-called for obvious reasons, displays a wide spectrum of colours along its length. Again, Photomatix was used to process this image.

24. Monkey

What a fantastic portrait! This monkey was photographed while ‘hanging out’ near Ban Saen, just outside of Bangkok, Thailand. The bright blue background complements its light tones perfectly.

Art Directors Club (ADC) Awards

I developed this concept and worked with photographer, Olaf Veltman, to create these call for entries posters for the annual Art Directors Club (ADC) Awards. The ADC wanted to elevate the status of what it takes to win a coveted Gold Cube so these ads depict hard work, dedication, and lack of sleep.

Pepto Bismol

I developed this concept and worked with illustrator, Hyeondo Park, to create this print campaign for Pepto Bismol. A visual pun was created for the term “Food sits well” using a chicken for poultry, a pig for pork, and a cow for beef. I actually met Hyeondo through Behance and this was our first time collaborating on a project. Hats off to him for some hilarious illustrations.

Ippudo

I came up with this poster for an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant in New York called Ippudo. The tear pieces resemble their egg noodles. The ramen is handmade fresh everyday so each piece says “Freshly cut ramen served everyday at Ippudo” followed by the address and phone number.

VICKS

I came up with this concept and worked with photographer, Chad Riley, to create this print campaign for VICKS. The idea is to make a visual pun of the term “stuffed nose” and how VICKS is there for you if one shows up. Because let’s face it, who wants a stuffed nose anyways? I had the actual stuffed noses (felt, fur, terry-cloth) made in Singapore by a prop maker. The props ended up looking freaky and weird which actually helps the idea. All the actors are friends of mine who played each part perfectly.

Bounty

I came up with this concept and worked with Gigunda Group to create these posters for Bounty. The strategy was to focus on the absorbency power of the paper towel… so we literally created big spills. In New York we greeted busy commuters with a giant coffee spill. In Los Angeles we greeted all the weekend shoppers with a giant melting popsicle. It took 24 hrs to melt all the way through.

Coinstar

I came up with this concept worked with photographer, Li-Han Lin, to create this print campaign for Coinstar — a machine that gives you cash for your coins. I wanted something visually simple and iconic. Thus, showcasing broken piggy banks not full of coins but what the potential inside of them could be. No need for a headline if the visual does all the explaining for you. This campaign is currently in various advertising award shows.

NYC Taxi

I designed this bus shelter campaign, and also wrote the copy, for NYC Taxi. It strategically targets people who ride buses instead of taking cabs. I also know first-hand that waiting for a bus in New York sucks.

Advil

I created these print ads for Advil, head-ache medicine. I wanted to do something simple and polarizing, in effect to give people an actual head-ache. This campaign won a Gold Cube at the International Art Director’s Club and was featured in the Graphis Annual, as well as CREATIVITY and CMYK Magazine.

Christina Ung was born in Bangkok – Thailand and she was 3 years old she moved to Canada and have never left the country since. At her childhood she used to play with lego and Barbies, toys that got started into the creative world. In 2007 Christina got her BAA Illustration degree at Sheridan College and since, have illustrated several clients. Christina’s works already appeared in group exhibitions and have achieved great recognition.

I bumped into Christina’s work while browsing around Design You Trust. Her pieces really got my attentions by its colors, personality, intensity and style. From the soft illustrations of Bangkok’s ISE , the brooding work of Hong Kong’s Calvin Ho or the clever product intergration of Finland’s Laura Liane, this post is extremely diverse. Filled to the brim with awesome fashion illustrations this over 80 pieces of inspiration article is Designfeedr’s largest inspiration post to date.
