The Olympics is multi-day competition that spans the entire globe and allows athletes to compete at the highest level in the world.  The emotional ties we have with the Olympics as a nation, a continent, and the world are astronomical. The Olympics have always been scrutinized for their branding because it impacts so many people. A project with this vast a reach and the ability to touch so many lives is definitely a dream project for any designer or creative. The illustrations of Vancouver 2010 are amazing & inspiring. The branding package completes a very clean & focused campaign which took hours of research and strategic involvement.

“My name is Leo Obstbaum, and I am a dreamer.” Remembering Vancoucer 2010’s Design Director

leo-obstbaum-vanoc

While doing research about the Vancouver 2010 Graphics I made a sad discovery. The Design Director of the project: Leo Obstbaum passed away at the age of 40. His final day, August 21st 2009 and he died of natural causes. It touched me deeply because after looking through so many different image threads and slides to see his deep involvement with the project and know he is not here to witness its outcome. One of his very good friends Mark Busse wrote a detailed article about Leo after his passing. You should read the article over at GDC/BC Blog.

One of my best friends ever is a Libra female. We get along very well and can have a great time wherever we are even if we're stuck in a car for a long drive. The only thing that makes us incomplete is her lack of integrity. She is hilarious, supportive, there if you need to open up to her, but she's also very selfish, stingy, and won't make plans with you but then ask you to do something for her. I have expressed these feelings to her before, but she doesn't change so I just accept the fact that it's who she is.

This is the year 2010.
Cost in 2010 = 18
Cost in 2011 = 18 – 18 x 6% +18 x 4% = 18 (1-0.02), let us call this A
Cost in 2012 = A – A x 0.02 = A (1-0.02) = 18 (1-0.02)^2
..
Cost in 2018 = 18 (1-0.02)^8
Hopefully I am right.
