Sony has begun taking pre-orders for its new electronic reader, the Reader Daily Edition, but due to unexpected demand it can’t guarantee shipments before the holidays.

Its $399 Reader Daily Edition is available for pre-order on SonyStyle.com, but the company says it will ship between December 18 and January 8, and "an actual delivery date cannot be guaranteed."

"The number of people that signed up … to be notified of the Daily’s availability exceeded our expectations over the last few months and we expect high demand now that it’s available," the spokesman, Kyle Austin, wrote in an email to Reuters.

Daily-Edition

The Reader Daily Edition gives users wireless access to Sony’s ebookstore, via AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband network. It features a seven-inch touch screen panel that enables intuitive navigation, page turning, highlighting and note taking with the swipe of a finger or by using the included stylus pen.

Users can take handwritten notes with the stylus pen or type with the virtual keyboard. Notes can be exported and printed for reference. The Reader Touch Edition includes an onboard Oxford American English Dictionary that allows users to look up a word by tapping on it.

Sony says the device will also include content from newspapers and magazines and it will announce content providers next month.

A linear demand curve will have a constant price elasticity. It can be elastic, inelastic or unit. It's included perfectly elastic or inelastic demand. The major determinant of the price elasticity of demand is the the product characteristic. Foods will mostly inelastic. Luxury products are mostly inelastic. People cars are elastic.
