This is the patent info regarding the possibility of a future firmware update:
Could mean emulation for some disc PS2 games. Could mean emulation for future PS2 titles on the PSN. I guess I'm being a devil's advocate here, but I don't see the purpose for this if it isn't for some form of even limited backward compatibility. Another thing about this is I don't know if we should believe anything Sony tells us. They have lied about other PS3 related things in the past, such as bringing Dualshock back or the existence of a 40 GB console. I mean, Poohbear obviously must think that such a feature is wanted among most PS3 users given his personal opinion. Sony could be listening and just isn't telling us.

Hi,
Open IE –> File –> uncheck "Work Offline"
That should fix it.
