freelancer jobs are for people, just like you, who want to work, but cannot work full time due to one problem or another, i suggest that you start to take small projects on various freelancer project sites.
that way by the time you are out of college you already have an impressive resume as well as experience and contacts which are going to be extremely beneficial for you in the long run.

I use the concepts from trig and algebra if I'm doing any work on my house (repairing the deck, re-tiling the floor, things like that). Algebra can also come in quite handy when trying to make sure your mortgage broker isn't cheating you!

Democracy
mythology (ever heard of Nike?)

science
math (can you do geometry?)
philosophy
drama (ever see a theater show?)
concept of citizenship (as opposed to subject)- includes ideas of responsibility as well as rights
