Computerized appraisals are mainly an advantage in two areas. One is convenience because you can rate a large group of people in less time and the other is that it may control personal bias. Both of these also have a down side that convenience might give too little attention to the overall performance of workers and in-person interviews are more effective in rewarding, or pointing out deficiencies in, workers.
