Facebook introduces the “Ignore all” requests button (again)

7 Dec 2009

No matter how you use Facebook one of the most annoying things about it  is to log in and have a gazillion requests waiting for you: hugs, Farmville gifts, Mafia Wars packs, Fish, Hospital Med Packs, YoVille, Café World, you name it: two days away from Facebook and you have a “Ignore” clicking session waiting for you. The more you procrastinate on this task the more time you will spend ignoring all of those requests.

Yesterday a Tweet by Paulo Querido, a Portuguese journalist, got many excited: There was a “Ignore all” option under the requests. Unfortunately after some minutes it disappeared (I was able to use it to ignore 34 Farmville requests with one click but some of my friends could not find the option anymore).

Today the ignore all option is back again and,  this time,  I was able to take a screen shot to show you how it works :

After clicking  “View All” on your Requests tab you get this screen with the “Ignore All” option:

ignore_all

When you click “Ignore All” you get a second screen that allows you to choose what types of requests you want to bulk ignore:

ignore_all_step2

And they are gone! With a click of a button! In my opinion this is one of the best features ever to be re-introduced on Facebook! What do YOU think?

UPDATE
The “Ignore All” button has been showing up and disappearing at least since 2008. That Facebook seems to be unsure to keep it is also a very interesting story: on one hand there is the pressure from users like me that can’t stand all the requests from applications that they don’t use/play/care about and on the other the pressure from games and applications developers for users not being able to ignore all requests with just one click.
At the moment it seems that the users are winning. For how long? Only Facebook knows.
Thanks to Cristina Angelo for the heads up on this.
