Mao did fight Japan, but chiang didn't

Our relationship with Chiang began before WWII. He was the ruler of China and we supported him. A good book on Chaing was written by Gen George Stillwell who had little use for Chiang and refered to him as the peanut.
Ok…enough of that. Through out WWII we supported Chiang even though he did little to fight Japan. Most of the Chinese resistance can from Mao, but we didn't support him.
Eventually, Chiang and his followers fled into exile in Taiwan. We continued to view Chiang's gov't in exile as the true leader of China untill the early 70's when Nixon formally acknowledged the Peoples Republic of China as the legitimate Chinese Gov't.
To this day we still support Taiwan because of our close relationship with Chiang.

No. I think Mao was happy having exiled them and freed up the mainland of China for his control.
