Bill Gates Uses Twitter Account to Unveil New Website

In: web resources

21 Jan 2010

Now it appears that Bill Gates joined Twitter with calculated intentions. After passing 100,000 followers in eight hours (now he has nearly 250,000 fans), the Microsoft visionary used his now-popular account to announce a new web project: The Gates Notes.

The new website offers a collection of Gates-related information with blog-like sections documenting everything from his travels to what he’s reading and thinking about. There’s even a “Curious Classroom” section serving to house Gates’s responses to students, and an “Infrequently Asked Questions” page to address reader questions.

So what’s the point of the site? On your first visit, you’re greeted with a letter from Gates explaining that he regularly takes notes about his work with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He’s decided to share those notes online “in the hope of getting more people thinking and learning about the issues I think are interesting and important.”

At launch, the site is already packed with notes, and we’re impressed and overwhelmed by the collection of content. Now that Gates has captured the attention of more than 200,000 Twitter users, we expect to see him use the platform to share fresh content with his followers and quickly gain an audience for this new online project.

Foundations are all about raising money. An executive with a foundation would be expected to be an excellent fund-raiser and a smooth and well-connected networker, and have first-rate contacts with corporations, other foundations, and wealthy individuals.

Yes there are. They don't go to individuals, however, they go to help entire communities by assisting organizations which perform public services such as libraries, schools, etc.

is the information on the Gates Foundation grants.

If you want to follow the trending topic of your choice, just open your Home Page and click on the links listed under Trending Topics. On the other hand if you want to get on that list with one of your Tweets, use the label for the topic you want to be listed under to start your Tweet or include it somewhere in the 140 characters. To get your OWN topic listed, you need to get others to retweet it or use the same label until you rank high enough. If you have lots of true followers this is not as hard as it sounds.

I would certainly be apprehensive to donating my money to research and development in America if I had the means by which to give such lavish wealth…..here's why: In our country, we spend more effort, resources, and time on maintenance health care than on preventive medicine. Here is what I mean, It costs a lot more money to eat good, nutritious meals than to eat poorly. Most of our health issues are related to our diet. Insurance pays for maintenance medicines and procedures but will not pay for preventive medicines. If I need to have a cancer screen or take a medicine or vitamins that will prevent cancer, insurance will not pay. But they will begin paying for chemotherapy/radiation treatment once I have been diagnosed with this dreaded disease. And it bothers you that the Gates do not want to put their money into such a backward system? I do not blame them.

I just read Jack F's response. He, likewise has a valid point on the elitist mindset. Well done.

Lou I am happy that the Republicans are fighting against the stimulus bill, because building roads and infrastructures will not bring many jobs. I voted for Obama because he mentioned in his campaign that he wanted to bring American Jobs back to us, which I thought met Factories, and that means steel mills, textiles and many other jobs that are in the manufacturing sector which would put people to work and have a choice to BUY AMERICAN again, things made here. What he offers seems opposite of what he promised. I do not want the stimulus bill to pass with money going out and not much coming back and only choosing people in certain Fields that go to work, when the rest of the population still remains unemployed. More factories, more people back to work, and more people employed to help share and pay the taxes to pay our debts. How is it that we are not wanting to offend Canada with it's steel mills and China because of the stuff they make and unfortunately we now owe everything to. We want jobs here! What is sad is that we will pour money into other countries but no money to the American industry to help them have the latest technology to upgrade and improve the manufactures to meet the EPA. What is with that?
