The whole auto-tune meme might be on minute 14 of its 15 minutes of Internet fame, but today’s new twist is still amusing.
Sony has launched the “Auto-Tune Your Status” app that, as the name suggests, lets you create a status update and then have it played back as an auto-tuned song. The results, though predictably awful, are good for a few minutes of fun.
To use the app, simply enter in your status update, select a voice, and pick a beat. From there, your auto-tuned status update is created and posted to your wall and to the news feed so your friends can see it. Unfortunately, it’s not embeddable outside of Facebook, so you’ll have to try it yourself to see what it sounds like. Also, make sure you have pop-ups turned on, because the app wouldn’t work for me without enabling them.

Auto-tune Your Status Update is part of the deal that web video show Auto-Tune the News recently announced with Sony. They aren’t the only entrepreneurs cashing in on Auto-Tune though. iPhone app developer Smule recently launched an auto-tune app with the father of auto-tune himself, T-Pain, which has already seen hundreds of thousands of downloads.
