I guess you have a good idea of an art, but as you go through please make sure that you are decided with what is in your mind, though it is a very good idea, my opinion being an artist is that you have to get a good model the actual object itself and use a magnifying lens to view clearly the details, I am just a little worried because micro details sometimes do not look good after it is being magnified,

Nikon D3000 does not have Live View Function so you can not view subject direct on lcd monitor.
