paypal has a very good (FREE) shopping cart sytem. If you want it more advanced you do have to pay but to have things like add to cart and view cart buttons its free. (they take a very small percentage out of the sales price though)

In my professional experience, I find books not all too helpful. I think I've learned all what I know from reading and watching online tutorials, and of course playing around myself. It's the best way to learn. I had a teacher that in his early days, bought a crapload of books on Photoshop and Flash and admitted that he didn't learn hardly anything from them. Plus they're drastically overpriced. Search the web for tutorials, you'll save your money and learn more.
Good luck!
