Vintage Cheese: Nothing Says Holidays Like a Family High on Technology [Retromodo]

Hands up if you’re taking a laptop home this weekend to escape family craziness by jumping online for a while. Me too. But if you believe these bizarre 1980s ads, computers were meant to foster an age of dazed family-togetherness.

Sure, the Wii might actually have a shot at keeping awkward conversation to a minimum, but it faces the same problem that the Commodore 64 had when it reigned supreme: You’ll still probably be booted from the TV when the football starts.

Technologizer has collected 10 of the most disturbingly perky tech ads from the 1980s, and it’s a fun look at how far we’ve (sorta) come. [Technologizer]

The winter of 1981-2 was very snowy, the worst year i can remember, though i lived a bit further north, in south derbyshire.

it started snowing on december the thirteenth, and there was hoar frost and freezing fog around well into february.

there was heavy snow in the february of 1987 or 88, but it only lasted about a week.

Well things most people look for is

RAM – Speed and and amount, look for 2GB minimum
CPU- Core 2 Duo is probably your best bet
GPU – look for a system that has a video card with dedicated memory
Hard drive space is self explanatory

This one is a pretty good deal that I've seen
(I don't think you'll find a better deal than this)
MSI GX700 – $700
17" Core 2 Duo T8300
3GB DDR2
320 GB
Nvidia 8600M GT
1650×1080 resolution

Newegg is pretty good play to begin, you can also try tigerdirect, just browse around.
