Samsung has taken this Mobile World Congress, not just to announce a few new smartphones, but also to take the covers off of their new 4G-enabled netbook. It’ll be a new iteration of their current Samsung N150. For the 4G variety, it’s using the LTE (Long Term Evolution 3GPP) project.

The netbook will be running Samsung’s own 4G chipset, which is named ‘Kalmia’. Gizmodo reports that Samsung has been showing off their LTE-based 4G since 2006 and have always aimed at releasing 4G products in 2010. Right on time, they’re planning to release the 4G-enabled netbook this year.

The Samsung N150 with the integrated LTE 4G will be able to get wireless connections with a hypothetical top speed of 1Gbps. This is of course compared to 3G which has an average top speed of 3Mbps (it depends on your network, of course).

Samsung’s LTE platform isn’t just for their own netbooks. At MWC they’re also displaying the potential 4G technology for all the manufacturers. Aside from their embedded Kalmia 4G solution, Samsung is also pushing a ‘dongle-type’ 4G modem. It’ll be named GT-B3710, no word on what ports it’ll use.

As for the N150 netbook itself, it’s your typical netbook fair. It’ll feature a 1.66Ghz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and a 10-inch screen. Samsung is also going to be offering their N210, N220 and NB30 netbooks and notebooks with a 4G modem as well. No word on pricing.
