You can order one from and they'll ship it to NZ I believe. About USD$500+.

It depends upon where you are from. Canada requires passports from most places and I'm not sure how the Nexus cards will be impacted by the passport requirements coming in this summer.

If you are really wanting the complete history of Middle Earth than you have to start with "The Silmarillion." You can't go any further back than in the Middle Earth timeline than its creation. "The Silmarillion" will give a shortened version of "The Children of Hurin" story and if you like you could read it after "The Silmarillion" or simply settle for the abbreviated version in "The Silmarillion."

"The Children of Hurin" falls within the timeline of "The Silmarillion," so if you're wanting the full effect of complete chronological cohesiveness, then you can read "The Children of Hurin" after the account found in "The Silmarillion" and finish the rest of "The Silmarillion" after completing "The Children of Hurin."

"The Hobbit" would be next in the chronology followed by "The Fellowship of the Rings", "The Two Towers", and "The Return of the King."

If, by chance, you would like to know all about the background and creation of Tolkien's world, there is also a twelve volume "History of Middle Earth" that explores Tolkien's creation of his mythology. It's a lot of information and is not for the faint of heart, but if you love Tolkien and love "intricate history" then you might want to check them out. I'm reading through them now and they are quite interesting, but not necessarily the most entertaining of books.
