In a move certain to stir controversy, Apple has hired wearable computer guru Richard DeVaul to join their team as a Senior Prototype Engineer.  While DeVaul has a long and active history in the world of wearable tech, his recent work in iPhone app development may have earned the attention of developers at Apple Computer.

Richard DeVaul is the founder of AWare Technologies, where he has acted as Senior Prototype Scientist focusing on wearable tech and computing.  DeVaul focused on wearable computer technology in his doctorate at MIT, having spent his early career focusing on heads-up display systems and “body-worn networks”.  His earliest known work with Apple came in a recent app in the app store, StepTrakLite, which features an accurate pedometer that doesn’t require additional hardware.

The move to hire DeVaul as a prototype engineer is likely to spark waves of controversy and inspire countless rumors.  Apple’s dominance in mobile communications and media can extend its history of innovation with an addition like DeVaul, but little is known on how this will materialize.  Just weeks after the iPad rumors were finally met with a product, the hiring of DeVaul will replace them with what could be something new and truly wild by comparison.
