oil heaters use electricity, so there goes that option. there are propane heaters but those require a lot of gas. i would say your next best bet, albeit not the cheapest would be a back-up generator.

The middleman exists because the manufacturer doesn't want to deal with you, so you're wasting your time looking for him.
You might try some of the online home-made candle/air freshener sites and see if you can strike a deal with them, but if low cost is your goal, deal with the middleman.
