From articles I have read, you will be able to use the Windows you download for approximately one year after Windows 7 is released to the general market and consumer. Then you will have to purchase a License for it if you intend to keep it and use it. The first full service pack probably won't show up until about six months later.

Hello Jase,

You shouldn't be able to run the beta any longer. You may be talking about the RC- which is over this upcoming month. You cannot upgrade from Beta or RC. If you used XP or Vista on your computers before, you can reinstall those and then perform the upgrade. However if your computers do not have XP or Vista you will need to use a full version to install Windows 7.

I hope this clarifies the installation differences!
