The difference between shoes tied with a balanced, neat, and self-tightening knot versus those tied with an unbalanced, sloppy, and loose knot, is all in how you make your first loop.
Over at Runner’s World they’ve put together an instructional video to go along with an informative article on the difference between Granny Knots and Reef Knots. Well tied shoes are important to runners, but anyone can benefit from the simple change in knot tying-methodology outlined in the video below:
By simply altering the direction of the first loop you make when tying your shoes you can produce a neater knot that is less prone to coming untied. If the Reef Knot caught your eye, you may want to check out another interesting knot we’ve covered: the “world’s fastest shoelace knot, a.k.a. the Ian Knot. Have a bit of knot tying lore to share? Let’s hear about it in the comments.

OK I have a unusual way of tying children's shoes. I was a teacher at Head Start and after you tie some preschoolers two or more times you get tired of tying shoes. The round shoe laces are the worst at not staying tied. So I would resort to the double knot. After a phone call from a disabled parent who cou ld not untie her child's shoes I decided to come up with a better way of tying the children's shoes. I wrap the lace around twice. It holds very nicely for the round shoe laces or the small round laces on dress shoes that have wax on the laces. The wax wears off after awhile and then they don't stay tied. This works for that, too.
My favorite shoes right now are a pair of brown sued flip flops with a 1.5 inch plat form.
Other related shoe stuff anything past a 13 in mens is hard to find.
Cool video. That's the way my dad ties his shoes. I have seen a man with one hand tie his shoes. That was pretty cool.

You just tie them with a double knot leaving enough room for you to be able to slip them off on on.

Personally, I think that if Ellen wasn't born, the world would have less laughter. She made television history by coming out in 1997, there's another reason. One change she made is that she made the people that watches and respects her follow her beliefs on the love on animal, that's why she won her Wyler Award and part owner of the Halo Pets food company. Also, it made some people accept the fact that homosexuality is OK, and that the world would sooner or later accept that, just the segregation or the women's right to vote.

Wow, sounds like it is going to be epic – no pun. Writers like you have every potential to get started on a publishing career. If you are looking for self-publishing companies to publish your book, I know of a few companies that practically holds court to everything a book needs from getting you your copyright, size preferences, book cover design customization, layout consultation, copyediting and even marketing – at affordable costs – that is, until you've decided what to do with your book in the long run.
Maybe you would like to ask around and perhaps shop around. Many would also suggest getting an agent which could take SO long for them to sit down and actually notice what you have there and believe me, we are not just talking months here but years. Let me give you something to peruse at while you are at it and hopefully this will help in your ride to the wagon of success.
I wish you luck! I got mine in the mail, too. Helps to collect these information before you get to decide.
PS. History doesn't have a copyright.

Spray them with a thin layer of hairspray, but not too much! It will make them slightly stickier so they will hold together better and then triple knot them just to be safe
Good luck! xo

As others have said, as you walk and move around the knot tends to loosen. Which is not a bad thing if it only loosens enough so that it's easy to undo at the end of the day, but when you have to tie your shoes in double knots two or three times a day it gets frustrating – that's what I had to do with my last pair of shoes.
Obviously a lot depends on the material the shoelaces are made from / coated with. Ideally you want them to be rough enough that the friction is enough to stop the knot undoing on its own. So if you're having problems with this, I'd suggest buying some different shoelaces and seeing if that helps. Try to get some that feel a bit rougher.
