It’s been more than a month I am staying with Virpus VPS. Buying their service is such a grave mistake. But then I still have to finish my other 5 months with them.

A month ago i was searching for good vps hosting, and from ramhost.us I decided to buy virpus cheapest unmanaged plan worth $7 a month with 512mb ram and 25gb hdd. One thing that taken my attention to them was their 1 month free managed service.

But that is actually the worse service that I ever had. The technical department was able to reply fast but non of their reply able to solve my problem which is to run DA under nginx or lighttpd. The matter could be solved fast if they just admit they could not do the work but even after a month the matter is not solved.

I do reinstallation on my vps more than 10 times along the month and it is what not worth. If before I was in ramhost i will be able to run my website after 1 day but here after 1 month my website still is not running. I request for them to install Kloxo Host InA box which is an OS template and has lower memory footprint. But what they tell me is they have installed it on my vps and i only need to reinstall everything. But the option is still not there. Plus another admin emailed me that my vps is too small. But I was wondering how do i able to run HIB in a 128vps in ramhost.us?

Then afterwards they ask them again to setup a webserver other than apache with control panel. They came back to me and tell me i need to pay $5 for the reinstallation. But i did not finish there, asking what type of webserver they will install for me. and do they really could install a webserver other than apache without any error. Upon my question they did not answer me but directly send invoice to me for the reinstallation charge.

This makes me annoyed and i kept asking what type of webserver i could get but none of their answer are related to what i asked. So due to that, i decided to cancel the reinstallation. But until now they have not remove the invoice from my account.

What I could say more about virpus was, their admin is not as professional as they think they were. Some might be able to tackle your problem but some is just noob like me. Upon asking a question, they will answer different things just to make sure that you did not learn that they dont know about it.

So if you really want to have a fun vps hosting, try not to get involve with virpus. Since i remember when i sign up and pay, i only get my account after 3 days and after talk to the senior admin.

I have a requirement of setting up a website to run on two different servers in different locations so that if any one of the location is down, the website runs from the other location. I want to setup the DNS on both the servers along with the website so that if the primary DNS server is down, the secondary automatically takes up and the website is visible worldwide. How can I set the DNS and the webserver to achieve this? The servers would be Windows servers.

We have experimented with different switch port and NIC settings to give optimal speeds on our servers. It seems that most setups seem to benefit from setting the switch port speed to 100, and then also hard loading the NIC speed and duplex on the server using ETHTOOLS. But we do get a few (especially if using Realtek NICS) that don’t seem to be optimal using this setup.

What do most do on your setups that seems to work best? ie: 100 & 100, auto & auto, 100 & auto, etc.

I was just wanting to know what some of you use for iSCSI/NAS/SAN storage systems that support Thin Provisioning. I’m trying to find the best solution but am unsure what is preferred and what isn’t. I would like it to be Thin Provisioning since it utilizes the expensive storage to it’s fullest.
