27 Apr 2009Yahoo’s found someone new to manage a collection of its most important offerings. Bryan Lamkin, who previously worked at Adobe and two venture capital firms, will join the Sunnyvale-based corporation with the title "senior vice president of Applications Products."

"Applications Products" sound unfamiliar? Try Yahoo Mail, Flickr, and Yahoo Answers, instead, as they’re all part of the group. And indeed, aside from Yahoo’s main search engine and Yahoo Finance, there aren’t many other Yahoo products that are more recognizable.
Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Groups, and Zimbra are part of the Applications Products group, too, so it looks like Lamkin will be in charge of competing with things like AIM and Google Apps.
The odds seem decent that Lamkin will be up to the task. At Adobe, Lamkin "led product strategy, marketing and product development for Adobe’s flagship software applications, including Photoshop, the Creative Suite, Dreamweaver, Flash and Illustrator," according to his LinkedIn profile, so the exec should be used to dealing with big-name products.
Scott Dietzen, whom Lamkin is replacing, will stay on at Yahoo and assume a new product strategy role. Hat tip goes to Joseph Tartakoff.
