Last month, ABC shows like Lost and Grey’s Anatomy started appearing on Hulu, thanks to Disney’s deal earlier this year to take a stake in the online video site. Now, ABC shows are heading to Netflix, where they’ll be available to subscribers via live streaming.
However, there will be a few distinctions between watching these shows on Netflix versus Hulu. For one, whereas Hulu is free and ad supported, the Netflix service is only available to paying customers and without commercial interruption. Overall, it also seems like Netflix’s episode selection will be a bit larger than that currently offered by Hulu.
In all, here’s what shows Netflix customers can expect to have access to within the next few months:
The first five seasons of Lost
Seasons four and five of Desperate Housewives
Season five of Grey’s Anatomy
Seasons one and two of Legend of the Seeker
ABC joins NBC and CBS in providing shows to Netflix’s streaming service, which also offers thousands of movies that can be watched with a variety of Internet connected devices including Xbox 360 and TiVo. Ultimately, these are important deals for Netflix, as it sees competition in the form of free services like Hulu, as well as new entrants like Epix and TV Everywhere that are starting to offer more on-demand TV and movie options to broadband customers.
