They do sleep with you and usually don't snore too much. If you hear them snoring, then they're probably not under the covers. I train mine to sleep up near my chest as I have restless legs. You don't say how old the cat is that you adopted or why you don't want him to sleep with you. You most probably saved the cat's life when you adopted him and he is gratefull - and alive. Yes, they are persistant and it is frustrating at times ( and sometimes I give in); but your cat wants to be with you -- and your cat wants to be with you -- and your cat wants be with you.
