One of the main charecteristics of a corporation is perpetual succession capacity meaning it will have contnued existence despite shareholders death or withdrawal. It is an important factor when other companies or persons deal with you for business. If it is owned by a few partners, the risk of business is more because any partners withdrawal may effect the companies business.
Normally a company having more than 20 shareholders can register with governement as a corporation.
You can check your company has "Inc" at the end (if you are in US) then it is a corporation.
